Happy Flag Day!

Happy Flag Day, friends! Fly those DC Flags high so Ward 6 can remain the champions of twitter-based DC flag-flying! Oh and  Tomorrow is the last day of school for DCPS so I call that the beginning of summer. How to celebrate?

Tonight, the Atlas Performing Arts Center presents reed player Yacine Boularès collaboration with saxophone player Yacine Boulares AJOYO which blends African tradition, jazz and soul in an almost mystical way. The performance is at 8 p.m.  and tickets are $25 – $28.

Friday is this month’s Truckeroo down at the Fairgrounds from 4 to 11 p.m.

The free Yards Park concert this week is Black Masala a brass band known for high energy performances.

Or perhaps spooky comedy is more your style? The Mel Brooks classic Young Frankenstein is the feature for Cinematery at Congressional Cemetery. Bring a picnic and some beverages (and bug spray!). The gates open at 7 p.m. and the film begins at 8 p.m. There is a $10 suggested donation.

Saturday at 2 p.m., the Northeast Library, 330 7th St. NE, hosts the first of four outdoor concerts this summer in the outdoor garden. The Gliders, a long-time fixture on the Hill, specialize in “roots, rock and all things Americana with a big dollop of soul.”

East Side Yoga (518 10th Street NE) hosts its 3rd Biannual Refugee Fundraiser BBQ at 7 p.m.  An array of local pit-masters and home cooks will prepare a menu of meats, sides, & desserts. (Vegetarian options will be available.) The event will be held on East Side Yoga’s rooftop deck All proceeds benefit  International Refugee Assistance Project (IRAP), an organization that provides legal services to refugees in America. $25 for bbq and sides, tea or water and dessert. Also welcome to BYOB. Get your tickets here.

Hamilton has finally made it to DC and the OG Aaron Burr Sir,  Leslie Odom Jr is performing at….wait for it….The Anthem. He takes the stage but the opening acts are also stellar. Maceo Parker kicks it off at 7 p.m., followed by  R+R=NOW at 8:30 p.m.. The evening is only part of the massive, citywide DC JazzFest. Tickets start at $70 for standing and go up from there.

Sunday, start the day at REI with some yoga to a 90s playlist. East Side Yoga is hosting this vinyasa flowed based class set to some sweet grunge and maybe some Alanis? It is $10 and the store will be open early for some pre-yoga shopping. Register here.

Don’t forget: It’s Father’s Day! Maybe take dad out for brunch? Brunch not his thing? What if I told you this brunch was on the field at Nationals Park? Brunch on the Baselines is 12 noon -4 p.m. Sunday and the menu includes chicken and waffles, frittata, fruit, mimosas and the obligatory Bloody Mary bar. All will enjoy the meal while watching the Nats take on the Blue Jays on the Jumbotron. The all-you-care-to-eat-and-drink menu for those over 21 is $75 and $20 for those who can’t yet avail themselves top the Bloody Mary bar. And is it even a Nationals event if you don’t leave with swag? All attendees receive a pair of Budweiser-themed sunglasses with a built-in bottle opener. What a time to be alive! Read all about it here.

If dad wants to watch World Cup matches instead, here’s a thorough guide to where you can make dad’s soccer dreams come true.
