To Do: Weekend of November 9th – 12th

Whether or not you welcome the arrival of actual seasonally-appropriate weather this weekend, we can all agree that putting an end to mosquito season is not a bad thing. Bundle up as you head out to enjoy the fun this weekend!

The Gay Men’s Chorus of Washington takes the stage for a Cabaret Saturday at the Atlas

Tonight, be in the room where it happens and learn how the sausage gets made– literally. The folks from Harvey’s Market at Union Market will teach you Sausage-Making 101. The class runs 6 to 8 p.m. and costs $40. You will prep, taste and take home sausage for your friends. Book your spot here.

We Happy Few theatre company presents Dog in the Manger at Capitol Hill Arts Workshop at 7:30 p.m. The show is a humorous look at class and privilege. Tickets are $10 and can be purchased here.

Friday, the Corner Store hosts an opening reception for Peaceably to Assemble, an exhibit of recent photographs by Mark Lindamood. Lindamood has been documenting the recent upswing in civic engagement in DC and elsewhere. The reception is from 6 to 9 p.m. with an artist talk at 7 p.m.

The culinary event Emporiyum returns to Union Market this weekend. The festivities begin Friday night with celebration of the 5th birthday of the market itself. This event  will include 20 different birthday cakes. The rest of the weekend is an opportunity to taste treats from all over. Tickets range from $15 to $80 and you can purchase yours here.

Saturday, head to the Southeast Library (403 7th Street SE) for the monthly Friends of the Southeast Library Used Book Sale. The sale typically begins at 10 a.m. and ends around 3 p.m.

That evening, the Gay Men’s Chorus of Washington in their annual cabaret performance It Takes Two at the Atlas Performing Arts Center. Soloists from the chorus will perform duets and other numbers that range from sweet to bawdy; hence, the audience restriction to only those 16 and older. Some good grown-up fun! Tickets are $20 – $39 and can be purchased here.

Sunday looks like a good day to check out Crafty Bastards. The the arts and crafts extravaganza takes up residence at Nationals Park this weekend. The fair runs 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. both Saturday and Sunday and tickets are $6 for one day and $10 for both. The last time I went, I got earrings in the shape of a slice of pizza and a very classy tote bag. You can buy your ticket in advance here.
