Greetings friends!

For many of you, this is the longest short week of the year. For those who have kids in school and sports or other activities the time period from the end of May into June is simply the End of Everything. All the events, performances, parties, ceremonies and farewells. But hold on! The end is in sight my friends! For those whose schedule may not be so jammed with obligations, here are a few ideas for how to use all the free time.

Tonight, strengthen your core with a Barre class at Yards Park with folks from Freedom Barre. The free class begins at 5:30 p.m. and is part of a summer-long series of outdoor fitness classes. Learn more here.

Friday, the free Friday concert at Yards park will be given by Burnt Sienna. The Crayola-named band performs from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. and all are welcome to bring picnics –just not your own booze. You can purchase some there and consume it within certain locations.

This month’s Union Market Drive-In feature is everyone’s favorite version of Jane Austen’s Emma, Clueless. Revisit this gem, which introduced the world to the goofy-sweet charms of Paul Rudd, from a time long before we knew Alicia Silverstone would eventually feed her baby like a bird. It costs $10 to bring your car filled with friends and absolutely nothing if you are on foot!. The lot opens at 6 p.m. and closes at 8:30 and the film will get going at 8:45. Buy your ticket here.

Saturday, Yoga Mortis returns to Congressional Cemetery. These are free all-levels vinyasa classes led by instructor Kelly Carnes. The hour-long class begins at 3 p.m. either in the Chapel or outside on the grounds. No advance registration is needed but do bring your own mat.

Rorschach Theatre Company presents Klecksography: Collective Ink at the Atlas Performing Arts Center. The event includes 6 short plays each spanning 1 minute to 10 minutes all inspired by the same painting, Norman Zammitt’s “The Hard White Edge”. 9:30 Club VJ Kylos Brannon will create live video experiences between each performance. Each team of playwright, director and actors has had only one week to create an original work. Performances are at 5 p.m.; 7 p.m. and 9 p.m. and tickets are $15-$20. Get yours here.

Sunday is the first Farmers Market at Nationals Park presented by Kaiser Permanente. Local farmers and other will be selling their wares from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. inside the ballpark at Center Field Plaza, and parking will be available at no charge in Garage C. The  Racing Presidents and Screech will also be there checking on the produce and posing for pictures. The list of vendors can be found here.

That evening, local band The Gliders will give a performance at the Corner Store. This group of retirees likes to kick it when they can and all are invited to join the fun. Fee free to bring your own snacks and drinks and while there is no ticket price, donations are welcome. The concert begins at 5:30 p.m. Learn more here.
