Happy Opening Day everyone! Are you one of those for whom life has meaning and purpose once again with the return of the Nationals? I am not one of you, but I seem to know many of you. Congratulations! And for those of you who have no idea what I am talking about, my apologies.

We can all agree that weekend are awesome, even if we might get SNOW IN APRIL?

Today is the home opener for the Nationals! They will be playing the Mets sans Jayson Werth. I am a new baseball fan so I am taking this kind of hard. I shall drown my sorrows with expensive nachos and Dippin’ Dots. I will avoid the boozy pouch drinks because I am old– but if it brings you joy, go for it. See you there!

Friday, grabs some beers and talk Shakespeare at Brews and Banter at the Folger. This pre-performance reception is for younger audiences (Under 30ish?) and provides an opportunity for younger audiences to drink beers, nosh and mingle with some of the show’s performers. It starts at 6 p.m. and costs $20. If you stick around for the show you can get discounted tickets.

You can also go check out Mosaic Theater’s newest play, Paper Dolls, at the Atlas Performing Arts Center. Read Maria’s review here.

Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. is District StreetFest at Union Market. Everyone is invited to come and check out the local businesses that call the market home. In addition to the many food vendors, there will be clothing retailers, photographers, yoga and soccer drills. You can see a complete schedule here.

Urban Arias returns to the Atlas Performing Arts Center with Florida,  this darkly comic, jazz-inflected chamber piece is about a teenage girl accused of matricide. Based on real life events. Tickets are $39 to $42 and you can get them here.

Not quite the Hill but close enough is the annual Hopfest. Organized by DC Brau, it is the only DC beer festival by local brewers for local brewers and it supports the DC Brewers’ Guild. Breweries from across the DC area will be at DC Brau, 3178 B Bladensburg Rd., from 1 to 5 p.m. for an afternoon of hoppy beers, including old favorites, one-offs, and hard-to-find rare brews. Tickets are $35 and that allows you unlimited tastes and the glass to taste them in. Food will be available to purchase from Sloppy Mama’s Barbeque and other vendors. Get your tickets here!

Saturday and Sunday, the National Postal Museum will host a Garden Party. This ode to Spring is meant to encourage awareness of and appreciation for the natural beauty all around and is open to all ages. The Postal Museum recently partnered with Smithsonian Gardens to develop the lush, colorful exhibition “Beautiful Blooms: Flowering Plants on Stamps.”  Participants will have the opportunity to attend a gardening workshop, make a stamp bouquet, start a mini garden of your own and enjoy live music and treats. The event goes from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. both days and you can learn more about it here.
