To Do: Weekend of February 22nd -25th

I.C. Movement Project is one of many groups performing at the INTERSECTIONS Festival at the Atlas

So it is the final weekend of the Olympics, the second week of Black Panther but what ELSE are we going to do?

Tonight, The Fridge opens a four day event called Bread and Roses, featuring artworks, workshops, and performances. Marking just over one year since the first Women’s March on Washington, building on #MeToo and challenging recent attacks on gender equality, this pop-up exhibition showcases the power of the communal fight for women’s rights today. Tonight’s opening night party from 7-11 p.m. will showcase performance, interactive, and multimedia art in addition to poetry and musical acts with food and custom cocktails from EatBar

Friday night, swing by the Atlas Performing Arts Center for the first weekend of the INTERSECTIONS Festival. You don’t need to buy a ticket for the FREE cafe concert that night at 7 p.m. featuring Crys Matthews. This family-friendly performance touches on everything from love to social justice. Matthews’s music blends Americana, folk, jazz, blues, bluegrass and funk. The concert takes place in the Atlas lobby and all are welcome. Snacks and drinks are available to purchase from the Atlas cafe. There are SO many performances happening! Find something you like here.

If you want to bid on cool things and help the local schools, you get two chances. Friday night, J.O. Wilson holds their auction at the Anthology, 625 H Street NE. More details here.

Saturday, say goodbye to another Winter Olympics at a Shake Your Thang dance party at Wunder Garten. All are encouraged to wear their finest ski lodge gear. The fun begins at 6:30 p.m. and there will be prizes for the best winter wear. Of course, you may be sweating in your woolens if the weather stays this freakishly balmy.

Want to bid on more cool things and entertain the little ones with the musical stylings of Mr. Skip? River Park Nursery School has their auction tonight! More details here.

Sunday at INTERSECTIONS, the I.C. Movement Project performs a piece titled Through the Glass Ceiling. The piece is a story ballet about gender parity and intended to motivate audiences and patrons to fight for a paradigm shift. The performance is at 6:30 p.m. and tickets are available here.

Monday evening at the Northeast Library, Capitol Hill Village presents another event in their speaker series, Village Voices. This time they have gathered a group of Vietnam veterans: Richard Neal (Marines), Michael Grace (Coast Guard), Joseph Kerr (Army) and Gary Peterson (Army). They will discuss their experiences during the war, their reflections on it since, and what they think of the current wave of television programs and films and books on the Vietnam war years. The program begins at 7 p.m. and is free.
