It’s the weekend before Christmas and some of us are headed back to where we came from; some are hosting visiting family; and some of us are hunkering down to enjoy the calm and quiet that tends to wash over the neighborhood this time of year. If you are hosting or hunkering here are a few ideas for you!
Tonight, catch one of the final performances of Draw the Circle presented by the Mosaic Theatre Company of DC at the Atlas Performing Arts Center. Writer and performer Mashuq Mushtag Deen performs this one-person show which tells the true story of his coming out as transgender to his traditional Muslim family. Read María’s review here. Tickets are $20-$45 and you can get yours here.
Friday is your chance to stock up on your last minute holiday greenery needs at the Nalls Season Market at Union Market. Folks will be on hand all day ready to supply you with trees, garland and more.
Greet the season with a local tradition at the Atlas– Step Afrika’s annual Magical, Musical Holiday Step Show. I have seen this one many times and it is always fun for all ages. This local troupe travels around the globe sharing the art and tradition of stepping but each year they come home to present this show. Plenty of opportunities for the audience to be involved if they are interested. Learn more here.
Saturday, go Caroling at the Wharf. The Gay Men’s Chorus of Washington will lead the seasonal singing from 7 to 8 p.m. Revelers are free to enjoy s’mores at the firepit and maybe catch a glimpse of Santa making the rounds.
Sunday is Christmas Eve and most local businesses will be open and ready for you to rush in for last minute items. While Amazon is certainly taking over the entire world, our community is made better by the many local entrepreneurs who have chosen to open their unique small businesses here and they are part of what makes the Hill Home for us all…Happy Holidays!
See you after the Christmas break so we can wrap up 2017!
