To Do: Weekend of March 2nd – 5th

Furia Flamenca performs at the Atlas INTERSECTIONS Festival Sunday afternoon.

Greetings friends! March is in like a lion cub and we are ready for the weekend. Always.

Here’s why:

Tonight, learn to make your own Kombucha in the Union Market Test Kitchen. Boosters of this ancient fermented tea make a lot of health claims. It is an acquired taste, for sure, but making it is a fun and deeply weird process. The folks from Craft Kombucha are teaching Kombucha 101. You will learn how to make your own and you will leave with a fermenting vessel, a SCOBY (don’t ask.) Tickets are $50 and the class begins at 6 p.m.

At the Hill Center, journalist Bill Press, host of the ongoing Talk of the Hill series, interviews the Washington Post’s David Farenthold who followed the story of the Trump foundation and was the lucky recipient of the famous Access Hollywood “groping” video. The event begins at 6:30 and is free. Register here.

Friday, INTERSECTIONS starts up again at the Atlas Performing Arts Center. So much happening throughout the building but this one-man show about God caught my eye.

Capitol Hill Arts Workshop’s Friday ARTnight this week is the drawing class Working from the Figure. This adults-only drop-in class costs $15 and is for those students who already have some basic drawing skills. Easels are available. Call 202-547-6839 for more information.

Saturday, the Atlas will have a full day of events for all ages. The always crowd-pleasing Zip Zap Circus USA presents RISE: a show filled with aerial feats and acrobatics. Music lovers might check out Jennifer Scott World Jazz Ensemble performs Dans le Bleu / In Another Reality concert of original music drawing on world rhythms and melodies.

Sunday, bring the kiddos (ages 4-8) to storytime at East City Books at 11:30 a.m. The event is free and no registration is required.

The final day of INTERSECTIONS is jam-packed. If you have never seen Furia Flamenca, the dance company always puts on an energetic and thoughtful performance. This performance, Amalgamas, explores the origins and influences of the various traditions which have informed the development of flamenco dance.

Whatever you decide to do this weekend, have FUN! ?
