Spring is finally here and brings with it a lot of ways to spend your time. Let’s see what’s happening, shall we?

Friday night watch a scary movie in a graveyard! For real. Congressional Cemetery is expanding their event schedule with an outdoor movie series called Cinemetary. The first offering is Alfred Hitchcock’s The Birds. Patrons are encouraged to bring a picnic and beverages as well as a blanket  to enjoy them on whilst lounging among the headstones. Gates open at 7:30 and he movie begins at 8:30. A $10 donation is suggested.

Simplicity sounds so nice.  I wonder if it’s too late to take away their Playstation…

Saturday evening the Pink Up Revue takes over the patio of Gallery O on H. This live music, burlesque, fire show extravaganza is a fundraiser for Breastcare for Washington D.C which brings cancer screenings to medically under served women in the area. Tickets are $20 in advance and $25 at the door. Doors open at 8pm and the show gets going at 9pm. Tickets can be purchased here.

Sunday is the annual Capitol Hill Classic which supports the Capitol Hill Cluster School. Racers can sign up for 10K, 3K, and Fun Run beforehand or even on race day. More information can be found here. All are welcome to attend this neighborhood event.

Some of us were not living in DC during the terrible heights of the crack wars. Former Washington Post reporter Ruben Castaneda had a front row seat as both a reporter and an addict. His acclaimed memoir of that time, S Street Rising chronicles DC’s and his own personal struggle with drugs. Castaneda will read from the book and answer questions at Pound on the Hill from 5pm to 7pm.

End your weekend on the lawn at the Hill Center. Those same CapitalBop folks are co-presenting  Hot 5 @ Hill Center, a jazz series featuring local musicians. The series kicks off with bassist Kris Funn and his quartet The Corner Store. The free performance begins at 5pm. Attendees are encouraged to bring a picnic and there will be beer, wine and other concessions for sale.
