To Do: Weekend of July 19-22

Jurassic Park is this month’s selection for Cinematery at Congressional Cemetery. Movie still courtesy of Universal Pictures. (Grrrowwwl)

That was fun! This whole past week has been a sports whirlwind for our little part of the world. And I was especially proud to see so many DC actors used in the intro bit to the All-Star game. Bursting with so much local pride. The inside of Bryce Harper’s jacket? Gah! It’s all too much. So, onward!

Tonight, try the Capital Crab Pop-Up at the Living Classrooms Foundation’s Education Dock at The Yards Marina. You can enjoy crab balls, hush puppies, live music and drinks and the proceeds will benefit that organization’s great work. The event is from 5 to 11 p.m. and kids are welcome.

Friday night, Congressional Cemetery shows the original Jurassic Park for this month’s Cinematery– just in time for the film’s 25th anniversary. You recall it as a scary dinosaur movie but watch it now and look for evidence that it could have been the movie that launched the second life of Jeff Goldblum’s career as a hipster sex symbol. I mean…  Where was I? Oh yes! The gates open at 7:30 and the movie will start about 8:30. It is a suggested $10 cash donation and you are welcome to bring picnic fare. Or for $25 get there early for a special Inventors and Innovators tour. The ticket includes the tour, movie admission and 2 drink tickets.

So, this is off the Hill but Stephanie Hulbert, the proprietor of the pop-up, works at the Tune Inn, so that’s close enough for me. A Presto! Italian Foods is popping up this weekend in Bloomingdale at District Space (3522 12th Street Northeast). For $65, diners will be treated to a five- or six-course Italian meal of pastas, meats and seafood. And dessert!  Dinner begins at 7 p.m. and you can purchase your spot here.

Saturday, the Capitol Hill Art League hosts a reception for the opening of the annual Winner’s Circle Exhibit at the Capitol Hill Arts Workshop, 545 7th Street SE. The event is free and open to all. Stop in between 5 and 7 p.m.

Celebrate all things Colombian at the 2018 International Colombian Festival. This event highlights the best of Colombian food, art and culture while highlighting the country’s diverse culture. The festival begins at 11 a.m. at Canal Park and tickets are $15 in advance or $20 at the door.

We are doing a Puppy World Cup apparently? Again, my apologies for an event not on the Hill (at the Columbia Heights community center, as a matter of fact) but puppies are an irresistible force. If your puppy has all its shots, is under 20 weeks old and is registered with the city, she can play.

Sunday, do yoga with Fringers. Each Sunday during Fringe, there is a yoga class–free with your Fringe button. You have your button already because you all went to Fringe last week like I told you, right? Well! There is tons more Fringing to do this weekend and you will learn all about it here.
