H Street Festival happens on Saturday
You guys! This weekend is nuts. Obviously the H Street festival is a behemoth every year but it’s not every year it has to compete with Juggalos. We are just diving in so hang on.
Tonight, Light Switch Dance Theatre hosts its weekly dance class, A Light Mix, at Capitol Hill Arts Workshop (CHAW). All skill levels are welcome and the cost is $10 per class. You can learn more here.
Friday, Nerd Nite comes to the Hill. The international celebration of those who are joyful experts in their fields comes to the Folger for an evening exploring Shakespeare’s coat of arms and a 20th century female physicist. Nerd Nites are evenings where a few experts on a wide variety of topics share their knowledge with fellow weirdos while enjoying drinks and snacks. Tickets for the event are $10 and drinks will be available and food trucks will be parked outside for sustenance. No one wants a mob of hungry nerds. Doors open at 7 and tickets are $10. Get yours here.
Saturday is going to be a bit of a day. Our very own H Street festival takes place from noon until 7 p.m. and will likely be a blast. There are always multiple stages bursting with local talent. Festival attendees will have a plethora of opportunities to purchase locally-made wares and of course food and drink. I hope the festival can retain its authentically weirdo vibe as it ages. You can go here but they have not posted any schedule yet, bless them. Keeping it real, H Street Main Street! I kid because I love. It’s a massive undertaking and they have been doing a great job. Mwah!
Should you need a break both Gallery O/H ‘s “Oh-asis” and the Capital Fringe are offering nearby, low key opportunities to revel.
Do you need to know what you will be missing while you are participating in the H Street debauchery? Off the Hill but possibly worth the schlep are the dual MOAR (Mother of All Rallies) and the meet-up and concert of by and for Insane Clown Posse fans the Juggalos. I need to confess here that I had no idea Juggalos were the objects of such scorn and discrimination so here’s hoping they enjoy their moment of solidarity.
This weekend also kicks off Hispanic Heritage Month and there will be events all over town so get a head start on your planning here. There are TWO productions of Lin Manuel Miranda‘s In The Heights happening. Neither close by but that never stopped a true fan.
Sunday, if you are still standing, check out this play about women, ambition, magic and menstruation. Lady M is a stylized and absurdist work in progress take on the Macbeth story by Collective Eleven. Performances are at 2 and 7 p.m. Get your tickets here.
