So there is the big football game this weekend, which I observe only for the excuse to eat nachos for dinner. But what else is happening?

Tonight is the weekly Bluegrass Night at the Argonaut. Enjoy dinner and then head upstairs for some of the area’s finest bluegrass acts.

Friday night CHAW adds a Knit and Sip to their Friday night arts and wine happy hour events. Enjoy snacks and drinks. Bring your own project or purchase a kit from the instructor, Terry Huet, to learn the basics.  All levels are welcome. The session is from 7pm to 9pm and costs $15 + $10 starter ball of yarn and knitting needles.

The In Series returns to the Atlas with a production of Carmen in Havana, a retelling of Bizet’s popular opera set in Cuba with hits from the Buena Vista Social Club. The production is directed and choreographed by the Washington Ballet’s Septime Weber. The performance runs through the weekend and tickets are $23 – $46. Learn more here.

Saturday is your chance to participate in an all-day Ultra Deep Stack Texas Hold ’em Tournament at the Hill Center. All in Enterprises is hosting it. It runs from 11am to 7:30pm and costs $280 to participate. I literally understand nothing else about this event, so I will suggest you go here if you are interested. Seriously. I tried to muster a river boat gambler joke but it is all so complicated.

The Corner Store is hosting a Children’s Storytelling event with host Vera Oyé Yaa-Anna. Kids can present a story based on a personal event (a holiday gift, for example) and it’s encouraged they stick within a five minute window. Storytelling is very hip. Someday your kid can present your family foibles on The Moth or their Very Own Podcast. The event begins at 11am and donations of $10 are encouraged though kids under 12 are free.

Celebrate Chinese New Year with Maketto at an event held at the Pierce School Lofts at 1375 Maryland Avenue NE (Penthouse). (aka the most amazing personal dwelling I have ever witnessed with my own eyes and I include Graceland in this). For $99 enjoy food by Chefs Erik Bruner-Yang and James Wozniak of Toki Underground and Maketto; drinks by Gina Chersevani, Derek Brown, Todd Thrasher and Colin Sugalski. There will be an art show as well as a parade of Chinese Dragons. Proceeeds go to benefit Maketto’s employee exchange program in exchange with Caring for Cambodia. Get your tickets here.

Sunday check out the free yoga class at the Southeast Library at 1:30pm with teachers from With Love DC, a yoga collective in town. Bring a mat and some water and come enjoy some down time before the nachos.
