Heeeeeey, It’s H Street Festival Weekend! Totes looking forward to dudes passing out in front of my house in the middle of the day, terrifying my middle schooler. (This really happened last year.) Kidding! Big fan of the festival. Just wish it were just tad less popular…

What else is going on this weekend?

Tonight head to Capitol Hill Arts Workshop (CHAW) for a Pay What You Can preview of Taffety Punk Theatre’s offering for the citywide Women’s Voices Theatre Festival. Playwright Liz Maestri places her characters, participants in a government experiment, in a canyon which seems to not be subject to the laws of nature as we know it. The show runs through October 10th and tickets are $15. Book yours here.

The Northeast Neighborhood Library, 330 7th ST NE, hosts a Caregiving Workshop at 7 p.m. Aimed at those who are caring for an aging parent or a loved one with a serious illness, the worksop will offer tips and resources from The Washington Home and Community Hospices. Free.

Friday evening East Side Yoga (518 10th St. NE, Second Floor)hosts its first ever #CapHillCreative BYO Happy Hour. The event open to anyone looking to spend a little more time with their creative side. The goal of the new #CapHillCreative movement is to strengthen our local creative community by offering the creative minds of the neighborhood opportunities to come together to share and connect. There is no requirement to bring anything other than YO Beverage but since this is an event aimed at creative folk attendeees are welcome to show off their creations, be they artistic, culinary, musical etc. If you do plan on bringing your loom or you grandma’s Texas sheet cake, let the organizers know so they make sure they have table space RSVP here.
*Note: The organizers want to remind you that this is not an opportunity to sell your wares, just to show them off to or, if culinary, share them with your neighbors.

Saturday is the H Street Festival. Before the madness really gets going, head to the Atlas Performing Arts Center for the finale of the project Mobilizing Our Community. Artist Kevin Reese has spent the last few months creating over 60 mobiles with 900 community members. The final products will be make their debut that day. It begins with his performance (oh he’s an actor too) at 11 a.m. of his one man piece A Perfect Balance inspired by the work of another mobile artist Alexander Calder. The dedication of the works happens at 12:30 followed by performances. The event is free and open to all.

Chef Gérard Pangaud offers another installment of his series on classical French cooking at the Hill Center. This session focuses on the Alsace region. The menu will include Onion Tart, Venison Stew with Dry Fruits, and Plum Tart. The class begins at 11am and is scheduled to end at 2pm though Chef Pangaud has been known to do overtime. The cost is $85 and includes materials. Register here.

Spend Sunday evening enjoying great music on the grounds of the Hill Center. Longtime D.C. jazz star Nasar Abadey is a drummer, composer, bandleader, professor and mentor to many of the city’s rising stars. His band SUPERNOVA is a DC favorite and has toured the world. The event will feature an opening Q&A between the Mr. Abadey and CapitalBop‘s editors, Luke Stewart and Giovanni Russonello, followed by two free sets on the lawn. The evening begins at 5 p.m. and is free and open to all.
