To Do: Weekend of December 29th -January 1st

2017 can’t be here soon enough

I almost forgot this again. It’s been a particularly kooky holiday season and I have rarely known what day it is so please forgive me.

This weekend we welcome in 2017 and kick 2016 to the curb for being the hideous, garbage year we never wanted. Aside from some really great new humans born this year, 2016 has been crud city. However you observe its leave-taking, I salute you.

There are a few ways to usher in 2017 this weekend.

Yards Park hosts the family-friendly New Yards Eve at 10am. They will feature musical entertainment, face-painting and balloon art, children’s performers, something called a “trackless train ride through Yards Park,” plus the big countdown and balloon drop at noon which seems perfect to me.

Peaky Blinders fans can get their 20s gangster era fantasies on at Beauchert’s Saloon’s Very Peaky New Year themed New Year’s Eve party.  For $140 attendees get unlimited food, drinks, champagne toast and swag. Book your tickets here.

The Rock and Roll Hotel hosts a gigantic event each year. All three floors will feature food, drinks and music. Tickets are $85 in advance and $100 at the door.

Bluejacket Brewery hosts a beer filled event with open bar, wines and spirits, a champagne toast, nibbles and music. Tickets are $115. Get yours here

For less boozy and more introspective New Year celebrations look to some of our local yoga studios:

Hot Yoga Capitol Hill is offering a special 10:30pm class set to music followed by treats after midnight.

Sunday start the year off on the right foot, at Be Here Now‘s Intention Setting workshop 10am to 6pm. The session includes asana (physical yoga practice), meditation, sound therapy to clear mind blockages and start the new year right. We probably all could use a little of that…. The session is $75 in advance and $85 the day of the event.

See you on the other side.
