To Do From Anywhere, Weekend of September 11, 2020

I don’t know about you, but now that we basically cannot hide from work, it’s easy to fall through a rabbit hole of things you have to do and never come up for air. This is why you need to get up off your desk or couch or adorable WFH setup, stretch, get hydrated, and come right back so you can do something fun. Okay, maybe let’s kick the list off with something socially distanced you can do so you can wear your fanciest sweatpants outside. Let’s go!

First up, YOU NEED HONEY. Listen, 2020 has been hard enough on us, so considering that Rosh Hashanah, the Jewish New Year, is coming, why not embrace the spirit and sweeten our lives with some local honey? Our friend Del Voss and his friend Jan Day will be selling honey this Saturday, September 12 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at 11th and C Streets NE. Follow Del on Instagram for many mouthwatering jar-filling shots.

Have a pupper or a doggo? Make plans to have their portrait made on Monday, September 21, at Congressional Cemetery! The pet portraits are happening as a partnership with Just Walk, a local, worker-owned dog-walking business. Click here to sign up.

One of the industries that’s been affected the most by COVID-19 is the tourism industry. This is why you should sign up for one of the many incredible tours offered by Cultural Tourism DC– making sure you donate to their till. Cultural Tourism DC keeps the District’s history alive and vibrant, and their tours are not just informative but a lot of fun. Sign up here. Check out this hidden Capitol Hill history tour and the Animal Alphabet tour!

It’s official: RFK stadium will soon be history and will be demolished– Gilbane Building Company will be in charge of the demolition (Bisnow). Pay your respects by watching a movie with Park Up DC. This Friday’s offering is, appropriately, Next Friday. Purchase tickets here.

The Hill Center has been holding some awesome virtual kitchen basics series. The one happening next Wednesday on knife skills sounds particularly awesome (sign up here) but you can peruse their offerings here.

How about treating yourself some more? Souk is starting a series of pastry boxes that all center around different themes (Washington City Paper). You can order or find out more details here.

Let’s just keep on treating ourselves. What about having a proper fried chicken sandwich this weekend? Anela Malik has a list of great fried chicken sandwiches from around the area, as well as a little bit of history about the ubiquitous bite. A new contender is Smokin’ Pig, 1208 H Street NE and, I mean… look at it. (Eater DC)
