Tonight is a Storytellers Open Mic at The Corner Store, 900 South Carolina Avenue SE. Fledgling and experienced storytellers are welcome to hone their pieces. Stories to be contained within 7 minutes, and space is limited to the first 10 to sign up. Tickets are $10 or $15 with drinks and snacks. Sounds like a good deal! Sign in begins at 6:45 p.m. Prepare to listen beginning at 7 p.m.
Friday, head to Southwest for the closing weekend of Sovereignty at Arena Stage. Playwright Mary Kathryn Nagle’s new work follows Sarah Ridge Polson, a young Cherokee lawyer fighting to restore her Nation’s jurisdiction. She must deal with the ever-present ghosts of her grandfathers. Get your tickets here.
Saturday, why not do something useful? Spend some time learning to keep vermin off your house. W.S. Jenks & Son will host a free class on better prepping your home from mice, rats, and roaches. The class will take place at 11 a.m. at W.S. Jenks & Son on 910 Bladensburg Road NE, , and will be taught by Gary Balogh of PF Harris, America’s oldest EPA-registered company. Register here.
The Corner Store hosts the Annual Valentine’s Dance Party with The Fabulettes, a 7-piece band. The cozy space will be filled with fun-loving folks who love to dance. Sunday is Blackout Day AND National Drink Wine Day at Wisdom. Blackout Day begins at noon with bagels and bubbles and DJ Mighty Joe. The afternoon ends with farewell pizza. Blackout Day tickets are $25 and get yours here. At 6 p.m., Wisdom commemorates Drink Wine Day and wines will be at happy hour prices all night. Mercifully, Monday is a holiday.
