Brief Assembly Pop Up returns to Union Market this weekend

Welcome to February! Short month so it is virtually spring right? Whether or not Phil sees his shadow tomorrow, the Superbowl will still happen on Sunday. I’m only in it for the snacks and the halftime show— but that is not nothing. How else are we spending this weekend?

Tonight and every Thursday, Gordon Biersch in Yards Park hosts a Family Feud style trivia night. Not sure what that means but survey says bring your friends and be there by 8 p.m.

Friday evening from 5 to 8 p.m. get a preview of the latest offerings from Brief Assembly. The pop-up shop at 4th and Neal in Union Market is back with one-of-a-kind apparel, beauty products and home goods from around the country. The shop will be open all weekend should you want to do some pre-game retail therapy. Get an idea of what brands will be available here.

Saturday evening at Capitol Hill Arts Workshop, Light Switch Dance Theatre presents Redlines: The Boundaries Created a multi-disciplinary work incorporating dance, theatre and film which examines housing discrimination through actual and perceived boundaries. All are invited to stay for a post show discussion. Tickets are $12 – $20. You can learn more about the piece and buy your tickets here.

At the Atlas Performing Arts Center actor W. Allen Taylor In Search of My Father… Walkin’ Talkin’ Bill Hawkins performs his one-person autobiographical piece about his search for his father. Hawkins was the first black radio DJ in Cleveland and the show is infused with period music as Allen plays multiple characters in his life story. Tickets are $20-$35. Get yours here.

Sunday, celebrate the work of songwriter Jerome Kern. The In Series returns to the Atlas with a cabaret All the Things You Are featuring six singers honoring Kern’s musical legacy. If you are not familiar with his name, you may recall classics such as The Way You Look Tonight or Ol’ Man River. Tickets are $20 – $40 (get them here) and the show starts at 2:30 p.m., which should leave you plenty of time to pick up nacho fixin’s on the way home.

Speaking of early shows, 1, 2, 3 Andrés is having a concert at the Naval Lodge, 330 Pennsylvania Avenue SE, to benefit Gan Shalom Preschool. More details here.
