To Do: Weekend of June 29th -July 2nd

Kick off the summer tonight at Suburbia’s Pink Flamingo party at union Market

Happy Weekend! Will you be taking advantage of the Fourth of July holiday next Tuesday and just calling this a four-day weekend? Sounds lovely! Have a great time wherever you go. No, I’m not jealous.
If you are stuck in town with me, let’s at least try to have fun.

Tonight kick off the summer with The Pink Flamingo Party at Suburbia at Union Market. Expect pink cocktails and treats and some flamingo décor. The event is free but register here.

Jazz pianist Mark Meadows performs in a free concert at the Arboretum, starting at 7 p.m. Bring a boozeless picnic. Enter via the R Street gate.

Friday night families with kids in the feeder schools for Elliot-Hine Middle School (Maury, Miner, Payne and SWS at Goding) can meet up for a book swap at 6:30 p.m. Bring a book to swap and get to know other families. This will be a weekly event throughout the summer. Any questions contact Amber.Gove at gmail.com.

This week’s free concert at Yards Park features Jah Works.

Saturday and Sunday is the Red, White and Brew Festival at Yards Park. Wear patriotic colors and enjoy themed beverages. Get your tickets here.

Sunday is Jollof Fest at Eastern Market. Jollof, a rice-based stew is the comfort food of West Africa. Local chefs will compete to determine whose jollof will reign supreme. Get your tickets here.

Off-Hill: The Sound of Music at the Kennedy Center is the kind of big-budget, feel-good production that you can take everyone to go see. Just make sure you take a big nap beforehand! The three-plus hour musical is gorgeously set and costumed and has a 20-minute intermission that is perfect for catching evening (or midday) views of the Potomac. Through July 16. Get your tickets here.

Have a wonderful weekend and make sure you check out our Fourth of July guide! 😉
