To Do: Weekend of February 2nd – 5th

As You Like It is playing at the Folger Theatre.

Happy Groundhog Day! How are we spending this weekend? What I mean to say is, what shall we do when we are not calling members of Congress or marching around yelling?

Tonight kick off Valentine’s month with Bubbles and Blooms at the West Elm pop up shop at Union Market with a workshop on designing a perfect bouquet. Rachel Ziegler of Floral & Bloom Designs will lead a mini-design class to create a Valentine’s Day arrangement to take home.  Bubbles and treats will be available. Festive love attire is encouraged. The class is $45 and you can register here.

Friday evening East City Bookshop hosts a concert Book By Its Cover, an on-theme acoustic rock show by local artists Tom Caiazza and The Proper Pets, inspired by the theme of love, lust, and loneliness. Admission is $12 and you must be 21 and over to attend. Get your tickets here.

Movie Night at Capitol Hill Presbyterian Church (4th and Ind, SE) at 7:30pm.  This month’s selection is The Lady in the Van, starring Maggie Smith, based on a true story of a woman of uncertain origins who parks her van in front of Alan Bennett’s London driveway and lives there for 15 years. The screening is free. Refreshments will be served and all are invited to stay for a [post film discussion.

Canal Park and the Waterfront BID hosts Winterlights at Canal Park. Enjoy $5 Peronis & House wines il Parco rooftop bar and skate the night away. Regular admission and skate rental fees apply.

Saturday at the Southeast Library actress Cortenia Smith performs The Legacy of Harriet Tubman a one-woman performance drawn from the pages of history which tells a story of survival, endurance, and faith. Free performance for all ages at 1pm.

Sunday take a visit to the Forest of Arden for some cross-dressing and love poetry. The Folger Theatre is running As You Like It, the comedy about a forest full of lovers and clowns which contains one of the bard’s most famous speeches about life. The production runs through March 5th and tickets are $35 -$75. Get tickets here.

That evening Lady Gaga will perform during a nationally televised sports broadcast. Prepare accordingly.
