The Gay Men’s Chorus of Washington performs The Way We Were at the Atlas Friday and Saturday.

Hey so this weekend ends with everyone’s least favorite Hallmark holiday! But can we agree chocolate is always appropriate?

What’s going on this holiday weekend?

Tonight jazz pianist Aaron Dietl and his trio perform at the Atlas. Ticket holders should plan on arriving early for the 7pm listening session conversation with the folks from DC’s premiere jazz blog CapitalBop. Tickets are b$20-$28 and are available here.

The Rock and Roll Hotel hosts The Life and Times of Major Tom: A Chronological Burlesque Tribute to David Bowie. A large cast of performers offer the tribute performance as a fundraiser for The Wanda Alston Foundation which works with LGBT youth. Tickets are $15 and doors open at 8:30.

Friday night the Gay Men’s Chorus of Washington presents The Way We Were, a concert by two of its acappella groups, Potomac Fever and Rock Creek Singers performing their greatest hits. If you like acapella you will loves these groups. I have seen Potomac Fever many times and I cry at least once per show. And given the  title there had better be some Barbra. There is one performance Friday night at 8pm and two on Saturday. Tickets are $20 to $39 and are available here.

CHAW hosts Friday Art night. This week’s offerings are Paint n’ Sip, and Groovin’ with Gigi. Learn about all the Friday events here.

Saturday morning freaked out parents are welcome to attend the free My School DC lottery info session at the Northeast Library (330 7th ST NE)  at 11am. (Don’t worry though. It will all be fine.)

The Friends of the Southeast Library hold their monthly book sale from 10am to 3pm. 403 7th Street, SE.

The Capitol Hill Presbyterian Church choir hosts a Valentine’s Day concert and sparkling wine tasting. The choir will perform a concert of love songs at 6:30 which will be followed by a tasting of bubbly wines paired with food tastings. Child care is available. You can learn more about the event here.

Ladies celebrate friendship at a Galentine’s Day Sip and Paint (Galentine’s Day = Day before Valentine’s Day hang time with friends. I had no idea this was a thing. Is it a thing?) The event is hosted by Derrick’s Paintbrush at the Hill Center. The $35 fee includes materials, drinks and light snacks. The session runs from 4pm to 7pm and you can register here.

Learn about your beer and dessert pairings at Do You Like it Sour, Sweet or Bitter at the Hill Center from 4:30 to 6pm.  Mike Stein from Lost Lagers (LostLagers.com) will talk about the beers Pipetown Traders will sponsor the beers. Snacks will be provided. Tickets are $32.64 and are available here.

I swear there is yet another Sip and Paint this weekend. This Valentine’s Day one is also hosted by Derrick’s Paintbrush. Anyone is welcome. This also costs $35 and includes treats and supplies. Register here.

No judgement! I worked in the arts for many years and getting butts in seats is hard work. Booze helps.
