Happy first week of school DC kids! My kids are so much more reasonable when they aren’t home for 9 hours a day. Ahhhh.

Since they have loads of homework they are too busy for fun but you aren’t. What’s going on this weekend?

Tonight is the fundraiser for DC Central Kitchen on the rooftop of the Liason Capitol Hill. From 6p.m. to 8p.m. you can enjoy treasts from Cava MezzeCentrolina, and Mango Tree, as well as signature cocktails from mixologists Devin Gong of Copycat Co. and Buffalo Bergen’s Gina Chersevani, along with wine and beer. The Liason Capitol Hill is located at 415 New Jersey Avenue NW. Tickets are $35 and can be purchased here.

Friday morning, join A Creative DC‘s monthly open-house gathering at Maketto, In Real Life, starting at 11 a.m. More details in the A Creative DC blog.

Friday night stop by East Side Yoga between 7pm and 9pm to celebrate the launch of their pretty new roofdeck. The newish studio, located above 10th Street Auto on 10th Street NE between Maryland and F Streets has just finised the roofdeck and will start offerening outdoor classes next week. To celebrate they will have treats from & pizza, Liberty Tree and Mia’s Coffeehouse as well as drinks. Music will be provided by the LeDroit Chamber players. Free and all are welcome. Namaste y’all.

Saturday learn to bake bread at the Hill Center with Chef Matt Finnarelli. You will learn tips on bread basics as well as work on sourdough and baguettes. Students will toast their new life skills with beer or wine at the end of class while noshing on sandwiches made with fresh bread. The class is from 10am to 2pm and costs $65. Register here.

Over at Union Market the winner of this year’s Launch Pad competition, Arepa Zone, will open a stand in the popular food hall. Arepas are corn patties filled with meats, cheeses and other bits of yum. Arepa Zone offers 13 specialty fillings including including the Sifrinia (chicken salad, avocado, shredded cheddar cheese), Canosa (shredded beef and shredded queso fresco) and Dominó (black beans and shredded queso fresco). Chef/owners Ali Arellano and Gabriela Febres plan on rounding out the menu with other Venezuelan specialties.

Sunday the Northeast Library hosts a block party in front of the library on 7th Street NE. From 2pm to 5pm stop by for some  face painting, balloon twisting, crafts and giveaways. A storyteller will perform at 3pm in the patio area and kids who participated in the summer reading program can stop by to claim their prize. Free and open to all.

Happy weekend!
