Additional Bikeshare Locations Coming to a Corner Near You

This isn’t the first time I’ve expounded upon the joys of Capital Bikeshare, but I’m back to the topic with good reason — DDOT has announced 32 new bikeshare locations will be added in the district, 18 of which will include larger stations with more bikes for rent. The expansion is the first since the stations were installed last fall. New stations will be added at 6th and H Streets NE, 3rd and G Streets SE and 7th  and Maryland Ave NE, among others. 265 new bicycles will be added to the system, which is great news because I’ve noticed many a lone bike at stations across the Hill lately!

In addition, a few existing locations will be expanded to accommodate their high demand.  Hill locations slated for expansion include: 13th Street and D Street, NE; 13th Street and H Street, NE; Lincoln Park / 13th and East Capitol Street, NE; and Eastern Market Metro / Pennsylvania Avenue and 7th Street, SE.

It’s off the Hill (but for the times you must visit Virginia) Arlington County will be expanding its Bikeshare stations along the Rosslyn-Ballston corridor in the fall. A map identifying new station locations and existing stations that will be getting additional bikes will be posted shortly on DDOT’s web site.

One place you likely won’t find a new Bikeshare location is the National Mall, even though I’ve seen many a bike owner down by the Mall on any given day. You can read more about that (courtesy of Greater Greater Washington) here.
