Capitol Hill Arts Workshop’s November 2015 Events

CHAW-logoOctober 14, 2015–The Capitol Hill Arts Workshop (CHAW) presents the following events in November 2015:

Sunday, November 1 American Youth Chorus Presents: It’s A Small World Join CHAW’s newest resident, American Youth Chorus (AYC), as they open their 2015-16 concert season with music that celebrates the beauty and diversity of the multi-cultural world in which we live. The choristers will raise the rafters with rhythms, melodies, and languages from every corner of the globe. From tender Japanese ballads to fiery, passionate songs in Swahili and Portuguese, it will be a musical extravaganza that celebrates our cultural diversity as well as our common humanity. Join AYC as they remind us, through song, that “IT’S A SMALL WORLD!” Concert location: Lutheran Church of the Reformation 212 East Capitol St. NE, Washington, DC.  Tickets are $16 for adults, $11 students/seniors, and FREE for children under age 6.  For more information, visit www.chaw.org.

Fridays, November 6 & 20Friday ARTnights: Drop-In Figure Drawing The Capitol Hill Arts Workshop (CHAW) hosts a drop-in “Working from the Figure” session on Friday, November 6 and 20, 2015 from 6:30-9:30 p.m. at CHAW, 545 7thStreet, SE. Work on drawings or paintings in front of a live model in a session without formal instruction, facilitated by artist Will Fleishell. Please bring your own drawing materials. Easels are available. Friday, November 6Friday ARTnights: The Art & History of Burlesque Have you ever been a curious kitten about the art of burlesque? Unleash that inner tiger with CHAW’s burlesque workshop. Come to this two-hour class and learn a sassy routine that will leave you with a wiggle and wink you never knew you had. There is no dance experience needed and no nudity involved. The class is part lecture and part movement. Guests will not only perform beginner burlesque dance moves, but also learn about the history of burlesque and the dancers who still perform the art to this day. $25 includes a fun 2-hour dance workshop fit for all levels and a little history on the form on the side.   The workshop takes place 6:30pm-8:30pm onFriday, November 6 at CHAW, 545 7th St. SE.  For more information and to register, visit www.chaw.org.

Saturday, November 7 Gallery Show Opening: Capitol Hill Art League Small Works Show & Holiday Sale The Capitol Hill Arts Workshop (CHAW) is proud to present juried small works from Capitol Hill Art League (CHAL) artists. The opening and art sale will take place 3:00pm-7:00pm on Saturday, November 7th at CHAW, 545 7th St. SE, and is free and open to the public. CHAL will be holding the holiday art sale throughout the run of the exhibition. General gallery hours are:9:30 am–9:00 pm (M-Th), 9:30 am–6:00 pm (F), and 9:00 am–2:00 pm (Sat). Gallery is free and open to the public.  The exhibit will run November 7 through December 5 in the Gallery. Saturday, November 7 Theatre: The Coil Project presents Strange Tales II: A Little Stranger The Coil Project theatre group returns to CHAW to present another year of four Halloween-themed works by local writers.  Performances take place October 30 & 31 and November 7 at 8pm.  Tickets available by visiting the Coil Project website athttp://thecoilproject.org/. $15 for the evening of horror and suspense!  The show will take place in CHAW’s accolade-winning black box theatre, 545 7th St. SE.  For more information, visit www.chaw.org, or call 202-547-6839.

Friday, November 13 Friday ARTnights: Paint & Sip Join the Capitol Hill Arts Workshop (CHAW) for Paint and Sip, part of CHAW’s popular Friday ARTnights program, for an evening of painting and wine on Friday, October 9, 2015 from 6:30-8:30 p.m. at CHAW, 545 7th Street, SE. Receive step-by-step instruction from CHAW teaching artists Ellen Cornett and Sheppard Bear as you create your own masterpiece, all while enjoying snacks and wine. $30 includes all materials and refreshments. Friday, November 27 Theatre Opening – Faction of Fools Theatre Company Presents “Pinocchio!” Faction of Fools’ Helen Hayes nominated “Pinocchio!” is back by popular demand!  This new adaptation for young audiences follows a marionette’s wild adventures in becoming a real boy. Five actors bring Carlo Collodi’s classic tale to life is a flurry of masks, music, and merriment. The show will be held in the accolade-winning black box theatre at the Capitol Hill Arts Workshop, 545 7th St. SE.

Show dates are as follows:

Performances take place Fridays-Saturdays, November 27-December 19

Friday evenings at 6:30pm; Saturdays at 2pm and 4pm
Special FREE performance Sat. December 12 at 2pm (no 4pm show that day)

Please note that tickets are first come, first served.

Saturday, November 28 & Saturday, December 5 Mask-Making Workshop for Kids with Faction of Fools Come early to Faction of Fools’ “Pinocchio!” and decorate a mask of your own to take home—just like the ones the actors wear!  FREE and open to all ages.  Takes place 1:15pm-1:45pm before the 2pm performances of “Pinocchio!” at CHAW.  Visitwww.chaw.org or call CHAW at 202-547-6839 for more information.

Saturday, November 28 CHAW at Capitol Hill BIDs Annual Holiday Tree Lighting Come watch CHAW’s Suzuki music students perform for the annual holiday tree lighting. This year’s event will be taking place on Saturday, November 28, 2015 from 5:30-6:00PM in the NE Quadrant of the Eastern Market Metro Plaza.  FREE and open to the public.  Visitwww.chaw.org or http://www.capitolhillbid.org/events/holiday-tree-lighting for more information.
