My, how quickly they grow!
Sometimes they develop so quickly and fly the coop, never to be seen again. But sometimes they stay and linger, and become a part of you so that you can’t even remember what life was without them in the first place. Such is the case of the 13th Street Garden, which started with a few neighbors and their firm conviction that a bit of land could hold more than gravel, a dumpster, and flyaway garbage bags: check out the history of the garden by clicking here, and keep a tissue handy. Those of us who’ve been around a bit have seen the 13th Street SE neighbors come together and turn a little eyesore into a beautiful garden. This garden now boasts a fountain, a serene sanctuary, and 13 garden plots which now can handle all kinds of entertainment for neighbors: movie night and a block party are in the works, as well as…. drumroll please! The first annual Easter Egg Hunt at the 13th Street Community Garden, happening this Easter Sunday!
This Egg Hunt joins the illustrious company of other great celebrations around the neighborhood, and about which Claudia filled you in yesterday. This one will also be a hunt, but it boasts an Easter Bunny to get your awesome bunny photos in. The most important component, however, is the community: after all, it’s great stories like this garden’s grassroots start that make us all proud to call Capitol Hill home. <3
What: The first annual 13th Street Community Garden Easter Egg Hunt
Where: 13th Street Community Garden, southeastern corner of 13th and C Streets SE
When: Sunday April 5, 2015, 1-3 pm
Why: Dude. It’s Easter. We don’t question the correlation between rabbits, eggs, and resurrection: we just enjoy the candy and celebrate the promise of spring as best we can.
