Cookie and Gourmet magazines are teaming together with Destination DC and PureVia to bring us Kids’ Restaurant Week, a week-long promotion in DC, New York, and Chicago that benefits local charities. The two DC charities that will benefit from this great event are Eastern Market and Miriam’s Kitchen.
This year’s event kicks off at Eastern Market on June 13 from 9am – 4:30pm. According to metrocurean, events include:
- 10 a.m.: Mike Bowers of Bowers Cheese on how cheese is made with samples
- 11 a.m.: Cooking demo by Travis Timberlake of Art and Soul
- 11:30 a.m.: Dan Donahue of Agora Farms on local farmers with samples of what’s in season
- Noon: Cooking demo by Greg Lloyd of Zola
- 1 p.m.: Cooking demo by Danny Bortnick of Firefly and his son Jonah
Throughout the week, participating restaurants will offer three-course, fixed-prices meals for kids and adults from 5-7pm. Adults and kids 12 and over pay $29, and kids 11-years-old and younger pay their age. It may not be the cheapest deal in town but it’s a great way to support local charities while exposing kids to new cuisines. Reservations can be made at OpenTable.com.
