This week’s list has fun holiday ideas as well as a few one-of-a-kind events for you to enjoy. Looking for an evening walk to enjoy the lights? The #LightUpTheHill map is starting to get populated with cheer. Check it out here. Want to be part of it? Send an email to info@thehillishome.com with your address so I can add it to the map!

Help our friends at Lola and Pear make their holiday book drive a success! You pick the charity and the books and Lola and Pear takes care of the rest! Their books drive benefits neighbors from Potomac Gardens, Hopkins Apartment, the Children’s Cancer Fun and Martha’s Table. Click here to buy and donate books!

While we’re in the donating spirit, help Naval Lodge No. 4 with their Winter Clothing Drive on Saturday, December 11. Bring new or gently used coats and blankets and NEW socks and undies/bras to 330 Pennsylvania Avenue SE between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. Make sure the coat is something you would wear and not something you were just going to throw away, ok? The drive will benefit SOME– So Others Might Eat.

On Friday and Saturday, December 10 and 11, Crazy Aunt Helen’s is venturing into the exciting realm of dinner theater with “Elf in the Rear Window,” a holiday thriller mashup. Support our beloved local landmark, Eastern Market! There are fun things coming weekends in December, in addition to the year-round vendors and the incredible inside vendors. Do your holiday shopping locally and support independent arts, artists, crafters and local makers:

  • December 11 and 12, the Roaming Santas are coming to town! Drop in for pictures and merriment! That will also be Golden Ticket weekend: Be the lucky purchaser at several vendors around the market and you can get a Golden Ticket that you can exchange for a gift basket, with goodies from Hero Heads, Antiochia and more!

The Living Room Comedy Show is coming at you from a *secret location* near Eastern Market on Saturday, December 11. Comedy AND mystery all in one! The location will be revealed with proof of purchase and you must be masked and vaccinated to attend. Tickets and more info here.

The United States Botanic Garden holiday display is open through January 2.
