The To Do List: Week of April 29, 2021

Other than poring over photos of William and Kate on the occasion of their 10th anniversary, what can we do this weekend?

On Friday, celebrate International Jazz Day with a rooftop concert! The Capitol Hill Jazz Foundation is having a special fundraising concert at 700 Pennsylvania Avenue SE. Kenny Peagler will present a tribute to Chick Corea and it promises to be great. Tickets and more information here.

A beloved Capitol Hill tradition is back virtually this year: The Literary Hill Bookfest! The event is free and open to the public and starts this Sunday at 11 a.m. There will be virtual meet-and-greets as well as workshops, a poetry open-mic and much more. Make sure you check the schedule here.

“Happiness,” an art show, opens on Saturday at Frame of Mine. The exhibit is organized by the Capitol Hill Art League and features works by artists affiliated with the league. You can catch the show in person or online through June 19, 2021. Click here to visit it online.

This year, Cultural Tourism is holding their Passport DC event remotely and they are appropriately calling it Passport DC@Home. You can join in the fun through May and beyond. Make sure you check out the full calendar of activities here.

Our friends at Lola and Pear had a giveaway with us last weekend, but you can still score a Mommy Needs a Break treat package that includes Crunkcakes (yes, cupcakes WITH BOOZE), an adorable and hilarious book called “Mommy Didn’t Say That” and awesome soap from District Batch. Click here to order.

Why not take a picnic out to the river? FloatDC has adorable electrict boats available. Click here for more info and check out the picture below to get excited.

One of the cutest and most civic-minded traditions in the school calendar returns this Wednesday, May 5: Bike to School Day! The yearly event, organized by the Ward 6 Public School Parents’ Organization is an early morning gathering to raise awareness of bike safety and fun! Make sure you wear your mask AND your school gear! More information here.

Plan ahead: The Capitol Hill Restoration Society will be holding their Tour of Tours next weekend, May 8-9, 2021. This year, there will be no indoor house tours to comply with COVID safety, but there are SEVEN incredible walking tours led by docents, including our very own Robert Pohl. Check out all the tours here and get tickets here. (Psst… make sure you follow us on Instagram for a chance to win tickets!)

Speaking of giveaways, the Wharf is having an incredible Mother’s Day giveaway and you can enter by clicking here. Share a photo of you and your mama (or you and your babies) to enter. The prize includes a two-night stay at the Intercontinental for you and mom, and much more.
