The To Do List, Week of March 11, 2021

It’s been an entire calendar year since our lives changed completely. A year ago, the To Do List was looking very sad indeed– a collection of “postponed” events that never happened. It was also the last To Do list Jen DeMayo ever penned. A year later, here most of us still are, relying on Zoom and navigating the treacherous seas of family, friends and acquaintances who don’t share in our views of what should and should not be open. Remember what happened to the lady who tried to flee the bus too early on “Speed“? Please be patient.

On that dubious note, what should we turn to for entertainment?

One of the many pieces of Art in Bloom we shall soon see around town. This one is by Ameena Fareeda and I want it all to myself. You can see more following this link.

Tonight, listen to Arnaud Sussmann streaming from Wolf Trap, starting at 7:30 p.m. Tune in here. One day soon, we will be ready to be in large groups, listening to music. In the meantime, you can access this performance until March 19.

Library nerd? The DC History Center has made their remote reference center available once again. Sounds like weekend project magic waiting to happen.

If you are able, come join us on Saturday, March 13, 2021 at 2nd and East Capitol Streets. Let’s imagine what we would be doing on a beautiful almost-spring day outside the fence. We will congregate in a socially distant manner (mask and double-mask if you are able, and don’t forget the hand sanitizer) and spread out along the fence. More information here and here— thank you for the support, WJLA! Show up to the fence and then drop by Eastern Market to pick up a Don’t Fence in the Capitol sign– they will be available until 2 p.m.

The Congressional Chorus is celebrating Black women in music with “This is Her Story.” The virtual concert will take place via YouTube on Saturday, March 13, starting at 8 p.m. RSVP, learn more and attend a post-show discussion here. Make sure you follow the Congressional Chorus on YouTube as well!

The Pie Shop will celebrate Pi Day the best way possible: holding their annual pi happy hour with a selection of sweet slices available from 12-5 on Sunday, March 14 (or until they sell out) for just $3.14.

The Roost will also be celebrating Pi day on 3.14, because obviously. Any slice from a round pie will be, as you may imagine, $3.14. Life can be beautiful sometimes. But wait, that’s not all! State Fair will have pie slices and Cameo will carry hand pies. You’ll need all the fuel you can get to memorize as many digits of Pi as you can, right?

Psst. Stop by The Pug on Sunday from 12-4 p.m. and get yourself a t-shirt and support them because they have been closed an entire year.

Want an event that will make the little ones tired and (hopefully) sleepy? Putumayo Music is doing a Facebook Live yoga class as they release their newest album, Yoga Dreamland. The event starts at 7 p.m. and you can listen here.

Celebrate the tight bond between the Irish and American Indigenous communities with the Folger’s O.B. Hardison series. On Monday, March 15 at 6:30 p.m., listen to poets Doireann Ni Ghirofa and LeAnne Howe. This event is in collaboration with the embassy of Ireland. For more information and tickets ($15), click here.

Need a catchy earworm? What’s Leaving by Shaolin Jazz blends soundtracks from Quincy Jones and lyrics from Method Man and Biggie. You can listen here.

It sounds delicious. Courtesy of The Roost.

The Roost is also doing Roost Madness, starting Thursday, March 18. You can eat your way through their bracket (click to enlarge) and if you do, you can get a $20 credit, as well as being entered in a drawing for $100 to spend at The Roost. Yum.

Across the street, Trusty’s will have a lot of basketball on TV. March Madness fans, you know what to do: Reserve here.

Wundergarten is celebrating St. Patrick’s Day with the Lucky Pop-up bar, which starts tonight through Wednesday, March 17. Click here to make a reservation or learn more.

If you just fancy a pint at The Dubliner to celebrate your Irish heritage (or lack thereof), you’d better make a reservation. Click here.

Want to celebrate the Cherry Blossom Festival all of March? The Capitol Hill BID has a great guide to all the cherry- and pink-related items you could ever want. Additionally, this tweet is getting us super excited:

We’ll be getting one soon at Eastern Market Metro park soon!

Whatever you do this weekend, have fun and be safe!
