There will be a special forum on lead and other dangers in local playgrounds. The forum will start at 7 p.m. at the Takoma Seventh Day Adventist Church, 6810 Eastern Avenue NW. For more details, information and a chance to RSVP, click here.

Do you have concerns about your local playground? Did you know that many local playgrounds made of rubber, foam and other man-made materials can get overly hot in the summer? Not only can these playgrounds cause burns, but they can also release toxic amounts of lead to a vulnerable population. While our local playgrounds have not been found to have concerning levels of lead, the fact is that the playgrounds at three DC elementary schools do. Also, DCPS has not shared any testing data. Click here to read about how the materials for these playgrounds are sourced, and as a reminder that there is no safe level of lead or other carcinogen exposure.
