The To Do List: Weekend of 4/26-4/28

Happy Thursday, everyone! Jen is out of town this weekend, but I’ll give you a good round-up of fun things to do for your weekend. Got your Benadryl and your eye drops ready? Let’s go!

You could be one of these happy people eating glorious Barracks Row treats at this year’s Taste of 8th. Photo courtesy of Barracks Row Main Street.

Thursday, April 25

Start the peri-weekend with yoga! Realignment Studio and Rose Physical Therapy are holding a series every Tuesday and Thursday starting at 6:30 p.m. Go here for more information and here to sign up.

Something low-key for the kids? How about going to the Northeast Library and reading with a PAL? Yes, there will be adorable puppers and doggos to read with. More info here.

Friday, April 26

How about a punk and indie band festival that celebrates its community at a cool venue? Yes? Then the Breakin’ Even fest is for you. You can go tonight or buy a pass for all three nights, and it all takes place at Dangerously Delicious Pies’ roof. More info? Click here.

Saturday, April 27

I hope you get to take a nap sometime today, because you’re gonna need it. Kicking off Saturday is the Arboretum’s Garden Fair and Plant Sale. Yes, while not exactly on the Hill, it’s very close, plus PLANTS! The fun kicks off at 10 a.m. and you can get more details here.

Got your plants? Up next is Independent Bookstores Day and the DC Bookstore Crawl. If you’re as fond of bookstores as I am, you will be eager to show your love and make sure you stop by as many as you can today. Here on the Hill, we have three of the greatest: Capitol Hill Books, East City Bookshop and Solid State Books. There will be a special passport that will give you a 20% discount on a selected item, special treats for $4.27 at Solid State Books, and if you visit ALL the indie bookstores in DC, you get bragging rights and a special IBD tote! Make sure you tag your adventure with #DCBookstoreDay.

All that bookstore trekking is bound (heehee) to make you hungry. Hit up Taste of 8th, put on by our friends at Barracks Row Main Street. The culinary world of Barracks Row will be at your fingertips from 1-4 p.m. More details here.

Don’t forget! If you want to improve your health and do good, Volunteer Capitol Hill is also happening on Saturday. More details here.

Really off-Hill but of interest to artists in the neighborhood: You can get an art critique on your project at Crestworth on Saturday as well. You’ll have to trek out to 14th Street to do it, but it could be worth it. More details here.

Finally, Saturday is also DEA’s Drug Take-Back Day. Have expired prescriptions you don’t know how to toss? Click here to get rid of them!

Sunday, April 28

Is there anything better than live music? Live music outdoors, of course! Catch Sarah Shook and the Disarmers today at the Hill Center from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m., as part of their American Roots concert series. More details here.

Want to support DC United as they play agains Minnesota AND also have a chance to watch them in Portland, Oregon, this summer? Head to the District Wharf at the Pearl Street Pitch and enjoy the DC United Watch Party sponsored by Heineken. (Free beer for the first 100 watchers!) Click here to enter the giveaway. The watch party is from noon to 4 p.m. More info here.

Something to look forward to
