On The Hill:

DC-based Stone Driver is back for local shows following the release of their third album back in May. Deemed, “The Best Original Band in 2018” by readers of Washington City Paper, Stone Driver’s critically acclaimed soulful rock has made waves in the local scene. Their grunge, blues, and psychedelic influences have captured fans around the country. Catch the band on July 28 at the Rock & Roll Hotel. Get your tickets now and support your local bands.

From being a music student to traveling the world sharing her own work, Australian singer-songwriter Alex Lahey has climbed up the ladder in just a few short years. Her 2017 album, I Love You Like a Brother, shot Lahey to the top of the charts in her home country with the album peaking at number 15. Her songs are laced with exploding pop melodies, universal themes of family and heartbreak, and just a bit of well-placed dry humor. Don’t miss Alex Lahey at the Rock & Roll Hotel on August 8. Tickets are available here.

Around DC:

The duo known as Sylvan Esso has captured radio audiences around the world with their addictive pop. Comprised of singer Amelia Meath and producer Nick Sanborn, the two have performed at sold-out shows and festivals since the release of their debut studio album in 2014. Sylvan Esso’s work features sugar-sweet vocals, poppy beats and masterfully written lyrics showing the duality of our society. Their sophomore album, What Now, was nominated for a Grammy in the “Best Dance/Electronic Album” category in 2017. Don’t pass on this show on July 26 at The Anthem. Get your tickets now.

Vans Warped Tour comes to an end this summer and punk and rock fans have one more opportunity to catch this festival right outside of DC. Six stages boast over 80 bands playing a variety of genres throughout the day. Performers this year include The Interrupters, Reel Big Fish, Less Than Jake, The Amity Affliction, a handful of local bands, and more. Warped Tour will take over Merriweather Post Pavilion on July 29. For more information, the full lineup, and to purchase tickets, click here.

Dial 251 for Jazz is a six-piece jazz ensemble from the Washington DC area. Their vibrant jazz began back in 2014 and they have continued to make a name for themselves in the area. Following a recent performance, The Washington Post called the band “crisp,” the musicians “gifted soloists,” and the performance “ambitious and rewarding.” They perform on their own and with guest vocalists at local venues and festivals, including the National Cherry Blossom Festival. Back in 2015, the band began playing monthly shows at Mr. Henry’s and has since continued the tradition. Support your local jazz musicians on August 3 at Mr. Henry’s.

Since our last interview with Lydia, the band has been busy with the release of their newest album Liquor. The new release features Lydia’s signature layered harmonies and captivating instrumentals. Many of the songs give a delicate feel, even while encompassing some electronic elements. Catch Lydia and supporting act Jared & The Mill on August 7 at U Street Music Hall. Tickets are available now.
