DC:

Don’t Fall for DC Water Scams

Photo of actual DC Water Employees, courtesy of DC Water

A big heads-up to neighbors in Ward 6 and in the rest of the District: Make sure you don’t fall for fake DC Water employees trying to steal your personal information or gain access to your home.

DC Water wants you to know that they will never send a technician without first receiving a customer request. Make sure you know what DC Water employees wear and what the official logo looks like. (See photo or go to https://www.dcwater.com/employees)

Remember that you can always request identification from any government employee before they come into your home, even if you are expecting them.

DC Water also wants you to know that they will never call their clients to ask for any kind of financial information. You can pay over the phone if you don’t use their website, but the utility will never reach out to you to ask for payment information.

If you do receive a call asking for bank or credit card information, please notify DC Water right away at  (202) 354-3600. If you have someone who claims to be from DC Water at your home, DO NOT LET THEM IN. Instead, call the number above.

DC Water may periodically be in the neighborhood checking meters as part of their replacement project. If you are in doubt, call  (202) 612-3473 to check on your neighboring status.
