The NoMa BID would like your help with a most poetic civic engagement: Through today, they are seeking your inspiration to name not just one but two parks in the NoMa area: The first one is currently known as the NoMa green and is located north of Florida Avenue NE, close to the Union Market district: Click here to contribute a name. The second park is closer in, at 3 and L Streets NE: Click here to contribute a name. Helping name a park is a sweet way to link yourself to your neighborhood. A park is not just an open space: It’s an extension of our living quarters, and a place where friendships are cultivated and your inner self is restored. Knowing that you helped pick out the name that will define this public space is, therefore, having a say in little bit of eternity, so do it responsibly. (Apologies: I love parks)
Heads-up: The process requires that you create a subscription to mySidewalk. I’m not a mySidewalk member, so I’m offering my two names right here: For the Third and L Park, it’s most appropriate to name it Swampoodle Park–especially if it’s going to be a dog park! For the park north of Florida Avenue, Kendall Green sounds cool to me. Mostly it sounds like it should be the name of a teen pop sensation, but I like the idea of honoring a Postmaster general whose generosity made Gallaudet University possible.
