5 D.C. Music Festivals You Don’t Want to Miss

Spring and beautiful weather brings the opportunity to experience live music outdoors. Festivals and al fresco performances give listeners the chance to explore new music, learn about new bands, and have a ton of fun. DC and its surrounding areas have a variety of different festivals that are sure to keep you entertained as the days get longer and the temperatures get warmer.

For a more casual event, don’t miss the one-of-a-kind Porch Fest coming up on April 15. Local musicians will line front porches on Rhode Island Avenue from 2 to 6 p.m. to showcase their talent. The Broccoli City Festival has made its mark as it has brought influential hip-hop and R&B acts to D.C. The main festival will be held on Saturday, May 6 at the Gateway pavilion in the St Elizabeths east campus. You can see Solange, Rae Stremmurd, and many more this year. For the ultimate bluegrass, folk, and Americana experience don’t miss the Kingman Island Bluegrass & Folk Festival on May 13. The lineup features bands from D.C. and around the country, such as Town Mountain, Dom Flemons, and many more. Food trucks, beer, and other activities will also be available. DC101’s Kerfuffle Festival boasts an incredible lineup of powerhouse bands. You can catch Weezer, Kings of Leon, Jimmy Eat World, Fitz and the Tantrums, Catfish and the Bottlemen, and Missio all on one stage at the Merriweather Post Pavilion. Take a seat in the shade or hang out on the lawn to hear some great music all day long. Tickets for the one-day festival on Sunday, May 14 are on sale now.

If you are willing to travel a little bit more, Firefly Festival is one that you will definitely want to attend. With acts like Twenty One Pilots, The Weeknd, Bob Dylan, Muse, and countless more, why wouldn’t you want to go?
