“When We Were Kings” Screening 6/10

2016 has been a year filled with crushing losses, and Muhammad Ali’s death this past Friday at the age of 74 has been a particularly sad one. Despite his failing health –he was diagnosed with Parkinson’s in the 80s– his death from sepsis was unexpected, and the world is still mourning the uncompromising boxing legend and activist whose performances were only outpaced by his sparkling and biting rhetoric.

Ali will be laid to rest tomorrow in his native Louisville, KY, but you can pay your respects to The Greatest tomorrow night at the DC Armory. Events DC will hold a special screening of the 1996 award-winning documentary “When We Were Kings” tomorrow, Friday June 10 starting at 6:00 pm. The documentary focuses on the 1974 Ali-Foreman bout nicknamed “The Rumble in the Jungle,” where Ali beat heavyweight champ George Foreman by knockout in the 8th round.

The community is encouraged to bring blankets and chairs and make a picnic out of it! There will be free water and popcorn on a first-come, first-served basis. Events DC asks that you RSVP before the event by using the following link: https://alimovienight.splashthat.com
