Thursday
There’s still time to check out the goats helping to clear weeds and poison ivy from the grounds of the Congressional Cemetery!
Afterwards, pack a picnic and head over to Canal Park for an outdoor movie night screening of Pitch Perfect. I dare you not to sing along, just a little.
Or you can get artsy at the Corner Store’s Studio Art Night with Actor/Artist extraordinaire, Kevin Reese. Join kinetic artist Kevin Reese and be a part of Mobilizing our Community, an installation of over 50 mobiles created by over 1000 DC citizens that will be at the Atlas Performing Arts Center. Design, cut out and sand pieces and then help Kevin balance pieces into a mobile. Mobilizing our community will open at the H Street Festival on September 19th. No experience required. Just come and play and celebrate balance and connection in our evolving city. The workshop is free, but you need to RSVP.
Friday
Kick off your Friday morning with a bootcamp workout at Yards Park, courtesy of DCBFIT. I have boxed with these guys before and can promise you will burn enough calories to justify an ice cream trip after dinner! Things to bring: towel, water, and attitude. In case of inclement weather, cancelations will be posted on social media for The Yards Park (facebook / twitter) and Capitol Riverfront BID (facebook / twitter).
Speaking of dinner and ice cream, the Friday night concert series in Yards Park continues with Morrison Brothers, an alternative country band. Get there early for a grassy spot in the shade, and enjoy watching neighborhood kids dance to live music!
Saturday
The weather is supposed to be beautiful so walk over to Eastern Market for some shopping! While you are there, check out Jonathan Bardzik’s FREE cooking demonstrations and pick up FREE recipes that use fresh ingredients from vendors at the market.
Stop by the Atlas Theatre for RighteousGIRLS (flutist Gina Izzo and pianist Erika Dohi) as they celebrate the recent release of their debut album ‘gathering blue’ on this east coast CD release tour. gathering blue draws together RighteousGIRLS and their collaborators in duo/trio settings (Andy Akiho, Ambrose Akinmusire, and Justin Brown) while integrating improvisation and post-production techniques. Tickets are $15 or $12 with a student ID. Buy tickets here.
Sunday
If you have kids, or want to watch area kids advocate for DC voting rights, come to the Capitol at 10am as DC kids join together for a sing-a-long of John Oliver’s #DCStatehood song. #SingFreeOrDie
