The To Do List

It’s the last weekend in February, the shortest month, and what a ride it’s been. We’ve shed our jackets to bask in the 70 degree weather and than we dug our snow boots out again to skate across sidewalks. With the Oscars being this Sunday, and now that you are all caught up on the movies, you can have a great weekend with a number of the great events planned. It looks like this weekends theme is art, in many varieties, and food. I personally can’t think of a better theme!

If you’re looking for some exciting things to do this weekend, the fun starts tonight with ARTventures on H street. From 5:30-8pm 13 different galleries and art spaces along the H Street , NE Corridor will open their doors for a special art walk. There will be a special “Passport” given out and for every punch, attendees get a 2% discount to be given at from 7:30 to 9 p.m. at 17 participating restaurants. Sounds like a great way to start the weekend, you know on Thursday like you used to in college.

On Friday, because you still have the Intersections and The Washington City Paper will be presenting the Arts Fest Bar Quest. Come celebrate the opening of the Intersections: A New American Arts Festival with 4 participating bars on H street. Get your game piece punched at the 4 participating bars and be entered for games and prizes!

After checking out great art and being inspired, you have now decided that you want to be a maker. Saturday at CHAW, get your jewelry making on with the Eco Art Jewelry Workshop. Learn how to use some of those recyclables to make great jewelry. After you’ve created some wonderful pieces, stick around CHAW and attend a happy hour to benefit the SOME (So Others May Eat) Empty Bowls Project. This is not your regular happy hour, be prepared to get dirty and to be a maker again as you learn how to make hand made bowls.

Sunday is Oscar Day! Your dress is ready, your make up artist is ready to make you into a masterpiece. To help your smooth your nerves as you practice your acceptance speech, stop by the National Gallery to check out one of my favorite bands Fugazi. Fugazi will be making a rare public appearance together at the National Gallery of Art on Feb. 27 in conjunction with a screening of “Instrument,” director Jem Cohen’s 1999 documentary about the uber-legendary D.C. punk band.

You’ve rocked out and it’s Oscar Time! Wisdom is having an Oscar viewing party on the big screen. Wisdom will be open from 5 until the Oscars are over. The post-party is up to you.

Whatever you choose to do, it looks like a great weekend to be on the Hill.
