Spring is in full swing, as are the events around Capitol Hill this weekend!  This Saturday kicks off the first annual Capitol Hill Month, a month of events dedicated to celebrating the residents, visitors, and businesses of Capitol Hill.  We’ll keep you updated each week with information on the numerous events around the neighborhood. No matter your entertainment preference, there is bound to be something for you in one of the many corners of our lovely neighborhood.

Get ready to kick off the fun this Saturday: from fitness on the Capitol Water Front, to restaurant tastings on 8th Street, to the opening of the H Street Farmers Market, to art shows and DJs on the H Street Corridor, there is bound to be something to fulfill your weekend desires!

Starting at 9 am, you can get your workout on at Fitness in the Front, hosted by the Capitol Riverfront BID.  A series of free fitness classes will take place in canal park from 9 am until noon.  Test your endurance, learn to throw a good punch, harness your inner chi…or inner child, or dance your way into the afternoon.  The schedule is below and more details can be found at CapitolRiverfront.org.

  • 9-10 AM Boot Camp by Greg Jones
  • 9-10 AM Kickboxing by Results Gym
  • 10-11 AM Yoga by Capitol Hill Yoga
  • 10-11 AM Pilates by Capitol Hill Yoga
  • 11-12 PM Hoopnotica
  • 11-12 PM Zumba Dance

After you’ve burned all those calories, you’re sure to have worked up an appetite, so head over to Barracks Row for Taste of 8th from 1-4 pm.  Tasting tickets are $5 a piece, or 5 for $20.  Each ticket will get you one tasting per restaurant. (So if you want to try three restaurants, you will need three tickets). Participating businesses include newcomers Zest and Ted’s Bulletin, as well as old favorites like Belga Café, Cava Mezze, Old Siam, Las Placitas, Starfish Café, Asian Fusion, Levi’s Port Café, Trattoria Alberto, Capitol Hill Tandoor and Grill, and Chat’s Liquors.  You can buy tickets on the day of the event at the ticket table in front of Chat’s Liquors, or in advance at Hill’s Kitchen, Groovy DC, Chateau Animaux, Homebody, or Capitol Hill Bikes. (full disclosure: I am a regular volunteer for Barracks Row Main Street and am helping with this event)

Haven’t had enough?  Good!  Because there is plenty going on along the H Street Corridor this weekend as well, starting with the season opening of the H Street Freshfarm Market.  There is also a long list of dinner, dancing and art events taking place as part of the new Main Street initiative to hold events the first Saturday of every month.  Frozen Tropics has the full line up detailed here.
