Hey Capitol Hill! Do you love doing things last minute and feeling the panicked excitement of almost missing deadlines? If you breathlessly answered yes, this post is just for you!

November 15 is the deadline for entering your design in the Capitol Hill 2016 Banner Design Contest, so listen up:

What on earth are you talking about? Use small words plz.

I’m talking about those peppy banners around the neighborhood, like the ones that read, “GREAT THINGS HAPPEN ON THE HILL!” and make you wonder if our neighborhood is really that exciting. I mean, it is, but I digress. Those banners have been put up by the Capitol Hill Business Improvement District (Capitol Hill BID) and they, in conjunction…uh… together with the Capitol Hill Art League, are looking for talented visual artists to make local art pop all over the neighborhood.

So what can I submit?

Something that really encompasses the spirit of the Hill, of course. The main theme is “IT’S ALL HERE ON THE HILL,” but you can riff on the warm fuzzy feelings that our neighborhood gives you personally. Here are the types of files the contest will accept:

  • Adobe Illustrator files (file name ext .ai)
  • Adobe Photoshop files (file name ext .psd)
  • JPG files (file name ext .jpg)
  • TIFF files (file name ext .tif or .tiff)
  • Adobe InDesign files (file name ext .indd)

Just make sure your entry is ready to be printed on a 24″x 32″ banner. This means your materials –especially photographs– should be high enough resolution: at least 100 ppi. By the way! All final entries should be submitted in a digital format.

Fine. I’ll enter. Where do I send my stuff?

Glad you asked. Go to this link:

But wait! It says I have to be a member of the Capitol Hill Art League! WHERE DO I BECOME A MEMBER, DAGNABBIT?!

Calm down: Becoming a member of CHAL is easy and you can do it by clicking here: http://www.caphillartleague.org/wp-content/uploads/2016/08/Membership-for-16-17.pdf

So that’s it? How many winners will there be?

Directly from their materials, the following: “The BID will select up to four (4) winning entries. Artists will each receive $500 for the winning designs. Artists of the winning designs will give all rights to the design to the BID.”

Go enter! You have like a day and a half to get inspired 🙂
