I’m Kelly Vielmo, and I’m running for ANC6B03. I’ve lived on Capitol Hill since 2000 and am pleased to call it home. My husband, Jack, and I met in 2002. We got married and formed a family by adopting three children in July 2012. Our children (ages 4, 5 and 8) attend Brent Elementary.
I began setting roots down on Capitol Hill when I started rowing with Capital Rowing Club on the Anacostia River. Those couple of years of rowing showed me that we have a treasure right in our own backyard! Now with the continuing development of Yards Park and the Anacostia Riverwalk Trail our family loves to explore and play down there. How exciting that we’re walking distance to a vibrant riverfront!
In early 2011 I began volunteering with the Capitol Hill Restoration Society as its co-editor for the monthly newsletter. This has provided me insight into the world of restoration and buildings of historical significance.
It’s a true delight that we’re able to raise our family in such a liveable and walkable community. Days can go by without having to use a car: our kids walk to school; the Metro is nearby; the bank is nearby; fine dining is on Barracks Row; Tuesday Night Kids’ Night is at Mr. Henry’s; the Southeast Library is across the street; Yards Park is walking distance. Our kids are growing up in an urban, walking community that is something special and unique. That’s why I love Capitol Hill and why it’s our home. As a member of ANC6B03 I will work to be responsive to all constituents and continue to make Capitol Hill a vibrant, liveable and walkable community.
