We’ve made it through the first week of July and change, and the air is surprisingly less horrifying this weekend! What shall we do as a reward?
IT IS NATIONAL FRENCH FRY DAY. What are your favorite french fries around town? Do you like the skinny bistro kind or are you more of a wedge person? Drop a comment or reply by email, social media or even smoke signal. I WANT TO KNOW. I love all fries. I miss Good Stuff Fries, actually, but I guess Five Guys’ sack of fries fills the void. I like it when Bistro Cacao has the long, skinny fries. The wedges at Little Engine are delightful and do not get me started on their Ranch dressing because holy moly and oh my goodness– IT IS THAT GOOD. Yes, I am a sucker for McDonald’s fries– but who isn’t?
My pick for this not-as-hot but still hot weekend? Stay in and watch the World Cup. That’s what I’ll be doing, anyway.
Equally air-conditioned but far cooler in its nerdity, the Folger will be offering printing press demos tomorrow, July 11, at 1:30 p.m. and 3 p.m. More info here.
Want to learn more about Hill Family Biking and see their new lane sweeper in action? Then attend their Brush Hour Open House this Saturday. More info here.
Don’t forget to check out Eastern Market at the Flea Market while you’re there! The indoor market opens every day except Monday at 8 a.m. and closes at 6 p.m. except on Sundays, where it closes at 5 p.m. On weekends, the outdoor market runs from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Ginkgo Gardens’ sidewalk sale and sundaes will be happening tomorrow, July 11! Go celebrate 26 whole years of Ginkgo Gardens and enjoy ice cream and sundaes by Captain Cookie. There will also be a make your own soil bar, which is not edible but very exciting.
Don’t forget: Every Thursday, the Library of Congress stays open until 8 p.m. and invites everyone to their Live! At the Library of Congress events. Check out the full list here and make your plan. Don’t forget to RSVP!

Have you ever tried Hill East Burger’s OK Burger with a chicken patty? This delicacy is back and you should give it a go because HEB is delicious. Click here to browse the menu.
And speaking of yummies, Snow Crane ice cream has a residency on Sundays, Mondays and Tuesdays through July 20, 9 a.m.- 1 p.m. at Little Pearl. This is the most delicious ice cream I’ve had in a while and trust me: these days, most ice cream gives me a stomachache, so it has to be good for me to gamble with pain. Check it out here.
Want to learn how to play American-style Mahjong? Yeah, you do. Catch a class (or a meet-up if you already know how to play) at the Hill Center this Wednesday, July 15. More info and tickets here.
Do you dream of attending a party where most people are reading a book? Then the Folger’s Reading Party, this coming Friday, July 17, is probably your (and my) speed. More info here.

OFF-HILL
The Venezuelan community in DC has been working tirelessly to help their people after two devastating earthquakes. I regularly go to Vicmar Heater’s Mobility Flow class at Bright Bear Yoga on Florida Avenue because I love her joyful, patient teaching style. Vicmar will be doing a fundraiser yoga class for Venezuela at La Cosecha this Sunday, July 12 at 9 a.m. (en español, if you want to test your high school Spanish!). If you want to join, sign up here.
Want a beautiful, historic AND AIR CONDITIONED large space to enjoy with the family? Well, the Building Museum has done it again: THE PLAYGROUND is ready for you to play! Get tickets here or keep an eye out for a free event as part of Ward 6 week, which is coming up July 27- to August 2.
