Then and Now: The Caldwell House

A house built in 1809 and surviving the Burning of Washington due to the quick thinking of a neighbor should, by all rights, still be standing and a National Historic Landmark.

Instead, it got torn down in 1933 to build the Adams building of the Library of Congress. A sad end to a house with a remarkable history: The Caldwell House.
