Hey there! Well, the Presidential cabinet has been slowly imploding lately, so that’s big news, but what else has been happening? Read on!

The Streetcar is dead. Long live the Streetcar? Probably not. Let’s face it: We’ll probably never have an administration progressive and gutsy enough to prioritize the budget and endure unpopular construction across town in order to bring a transportation system that is beneficial to the elderly and those with limited mobility. You can read more about the little system that couldn’t via DC News Now, Urban Turf, The 51St, WAMU and watch a reel by me on Instagram. If you’re Gen X, you’re welcome for the throwback.

Incidentally, I talked to a few of the streetcar operators about their future plans. One of them said they were retiring and looking forward to rest. The other ones mentioned that, besides being blindsided by the December announcement, future employment is up in the air and their union has been decidedly unhelpful.

The current DC Council Vs. Mayor horn-locking is over the youth curfew. The legislation making these curfews happen is set to expire on the 15th of the month, but the council isn’t voting on whether to extend it or not (WUSA). Yes, we have all seen the footage from the brawls (most notably over the St. Paddy’s Day weekend [WJLA]), but the posters advertising to “be lit” get me thinking that the organizers of these public parties, etc., are not exactly kids. Hidden forces instigating crime for spring? Groundbreaking.

Ew. DC News Now

Not exactly newest news, but the Hechinger Mall Safeway (known in some circles as the original Unsafeway) is set to close. Poor timing, considering that there are more apartments than ever over that way. FOX-5

Around mid-March, there was a Saturday night shooting in the area around 14th and A Streets SE. About 100 rounds were unloaded, which is a ridiculous amount. WJLA-7
