Hey there, everyone! The gorgeous weather could not last, but it’s good that we’re getting a little soak here and there to keep the plants growing. What else is going on?
Well, looks like the RFK Stadium deal has officially passed Council vote on an amended bill and the Commanders will return to DC. The vote stood at 11-2, with the only two nays coming from Councilmembers Robert White and Brianne Nadeau. Read reporting from WJLA and WTOP.
Mayor Bowser issued a victorious statement and Ex-Tweet below:

The Sierra Club is not a fan. This part is something we’ve said on multiple occasions and which worries us extremely: “Despite the increased likelihood of flooding due to climate change, the deal calls for commercial and residential development on the floodplain along the Anacostia River, rather than preserving the area for recreation and natural habitat.” Sierra Club statement
And Kingman Park neighbors would agree. They fear for the health of a green space that is at the heart of the community– and massively threatened by future construction. WJLA
Incidentally, the Council also voted to expand youth curfews. Martin Austermuhle via Ex-Twitter
The project at the former AutoZone space has hit a major snag and apparently they’ve lost a major (but mystery) supermarket retailer. Another supermarket on H Street? In this economy? Well, that’s apparently what happened– labor costs may be too high to make the project feasible. Maybe we’ll always have the AutoZone? Urban Turf and Washington Business Journal
And okay this is citywide, but ooof– big: Looks like Compass Coffee owes $1B in back rent at their Okie Street NE location, which might force Compass to go bankrupt. Yikes. Washington Business Journal
Looks like a new restaurant is coming to Barracks Row in the former Extreme Pizza/Orchid space. PoPville (But does anyone remember what the handle to open the bathroom at Orchid looked like??)
The Washington Post took the time to analyze arrest records during the crime emergency. Takeaway statistic? “Those arrested were overwhelmingly young, Black men. Black men have made up the majority of D.C. police arrests for years.” WaPo
Even the New York Times noticed the streets have felt emptier due to the crime emergency.

If you’ve ever wanted to go get your hair cut, and then stick around for shopping or a drink, then congratulations! Manifest is coming to this side of the railroad tracks, in NoMa. Washington Business Journal
BIG congratulations to Metro! The agency won Transit Agency of the Year from the American Public Transportation Association. WMATA PR
The Post decided to terminate opinion writer Karen Attiah over her remarks on the death of podcaster Charlie Kirk: She expressed sadness over the violence in our country and shared some of his words, verbatim. You can read more about her firing over at her Substack.
Do you dislike the brick sidewalks? Have you had an accident? You might want to take a look at Capitol Hill Village’s Sidewalk Safety Project page. CHV
And hey, a hopeful note: HIIT might be effective at staving off cancer cells. Is it HIIT if you’re doing a mad dash for the ice cream aisle? Prevention
