Hello there, neighbors. We’re getting a military parade whether we want it or not this coming Saturday and the President threatened force on “any” protests (ABC News)– which the White House later clarified by saying that peaceful protests are okay (USAToday). What a comfort! Anyway, if you want to stay away from the Constitution Avenue NW area, why not join Free DC’s Joy Day at Anacostia Park? The VANS Warped Tour will also be in town.
What else is going on?
Can privatizing the DC Jail be the solution to its shameful and unsanitary conditions? Maybe? WAMU

ALDI opened a new store this past Thursday on H Street and that space, which lay dormant for years after Amazon pulled out, lives again. Yay! Washington Business Journal
The House voted to revoke the non-citizen’s voting law in the District of Columbia. This is not the first time it happens, but this time it might stick. Washington Times

And the New York Times Magazine spends an large amount of words fangirling over Butterworth’s and its ambiance; about its host and investor Raheem Kassam; about chef Bart Hutchins and his post-Obama penchant for “working-class populism,” because nothing says proletarian values quite like offering the caviar bumps referenced in the article and in the accompanying photos. Oh, and Steve Bannon? A character!
One thing this piece accomplishes well is making me lose my appetite.

The man in the mugshot above, 50 year old Mohammad Al-Rashidi, is very dangerous. He is believed to have set at least 35 fires around Capitol Hill in the past few weeks. He was arrested recently (hence the mug shot) but had to be released due to lack of evidence. Yesterday evening, he set another fire in the recycling bin at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church– hours after he’d set a fire in Walter Alley, behind the Hillsdale College offices under construction. If you see him, DO NOT APPROACH HIM. Immediately call 911 and notify the authorities as to which direction he was headed. (Some of this content came from NBC, but the rest came directly through a neighbor connected to St. Joseph’s.)
Incidentally, if you are frustrated by the lack of convictions in cases such as this, please consider installing a camera in your property, as this could be the difference between a destruction of property charge and an arson charge. Learn more about this rebate program here.
Capitol Smokers is a weed shop opening in the former Congress Market space. Except that no, it’s not a weed shop and oops, the owners want to sell groceries and maybe also some cigarettes. Anyway, the sign is coming down, so pay your respects to the mischievous weed leaf that was there to sell you groceries and maybe cigarettes. Capitol Hill Corner.
ZomTum in the former Joselito space now has signage. PoPville

And Crack Fish & Chicken is moving in at the old pizza spot on H Street. Interesting name place, for sure. Via Cynthia Bar & Bistro’s Ex-Twitter.
