It’s a seasonably warm June afternoon, which means we can finally complain about the weather in style. Sure, it’s been hazy from the Canadian wildfires (Reuters), but at least our air quality isn’t as terrible as two years ago– remember that? You can check the air quality at AirNow.gov— while we still have it. Don’t worry: the air is probably going to get bad, too.

How to make a project fail: Go way over time and budget; ignore repeated pleas for continuing the expansion of said project; make sure press only focuses on downsides of project; harbor ill will against project; never fight back or focus on the good; rinse and repeat. Oh yeah, the DC Streetcar is going to be phased out in two years, to be replaced by buses. NBC-4
Did anyone say failures? Looks like the DC Council has voted to pause the implementation of Initiative 82, which would have phased out tipped minimum wage. Even though voters have twice elected the measure, many restaurant closures cite I-82 as a reason for why they were no longer able to stay open. The vote was 8-4, with the only nays in the council being Brianne Nadeau, Matt Frumin, Janeese Lewis-George and Zachary Parker. Alex Koma/X
Were you stuck getting home yesterday evening on the Metro? There was a small fire outside Stadium-Armory station. WJLA-7
It seems that saying that building a taxpayer-subsidized football stadium at the site of a former football stadium is a dumb idea is as egregious as saying you are “annoyed by mambo sauce.” The 51st collected opinions from residents around the RFK Stadium site and asked them what they thought. This quote from resident Lora Nunn sums it up for us: “I have a problem with the city pushing the false narrative that a stadium will somehow “save” the communities they have actively ignored for years.”
