- MPD Arrests Suspect in Northwest Assault
The Metropolitan Police Department announces the arrest of a man in an assault in Northwest.
On November 27, 2024, at approximately 1:04 p.m., the victim reported walking in the Unit block of Massachusetts Avenue, Northwest, when the suspect approached from behind and assaulted the victim. The victim fell to the floor and suffered serious, but non-life threatening, injuries.
With the assistance from the community, detectives obtained camera footage of the suspect and distributed a photo to officers throughout the District.
On Wednesday, December 5, 2024, at approximately 10:50 p.m., Sixth District officers observed the suspect and placed him under arrest. As a result of the detectives investigation, 42-year-old Jovan Middleton of District Heights, MD, was charged with Aggravated Assault.

- MPD Makes Arrest in Southeast Carjacking
The Metropolitan Police Department announces the arrest of a suspect in a carjacking in Southeast.
On Wednesday, October 30, 2024, at approximately 6:23 p.m., the suspects approached the victim inside of a parking garage in the 400 block of 14th Street, Southeast. One of the suspects brandished a handgun and demanded the victim’s car keys. The victim complied. The suspects fled the scene in the victim’s car.
On Thursday, December 5, 2024, as a result of detectives’ investigation, a 13-year-old juvenile male of Southeast was arrested and charged with Armed Carjacking
- MPD Investigating Southwest Homicide
The Metropolitan Police Department is investigating a fatal shooting in Southwest.
On Wednesday, December 4, 2024, at approximately 6:31 p.m., officers of the First District responded to an apartment building in the 200 block of I Street, Southwest, for the report of a shooting. Officers located an adult male inside of an apartment unit, unconscious and not breathing, suffering from gunshot wounds. DC Fire and Emergency Medical Services responded to the scene and after finding no signs consistent with life, the victim was pronounced dead.
The victim has been identified as 19-year-old Nadir McCoy, of Northwest, DC.
- MPD Seeks Person of Interest in Bladensburg Road Homicide

The Metropolitan Police Department is asking for the community’s assistance in identifying a person of interest in a fatal shooting in Northeast.
On Tuesday, December 3, 2024, at approximately 10:49 a.m., Fifth District officers responded to the 1200 block of Bladensburg Road, Northeast, for reports of a shooting. Upon arrival, officers located an adult male, unconscious and not breathing, suffering from gunshot wounds outside of an establishment. DC Fire and Emergency Medical Services transported the victim to a local hospital, where after all lifesaving efforts failed, he was pronounced dead. The detectives’ investigation revealed that the shooting occurred inside of an establishment at the location.
The victim has been identified as 18-year-old Jeremiah Law, of Fort Washington, MD.
