To Do:

The To Do List: Week of August 9, 2024

Are you celebrating CATURDAY?! We do so, every day, and we love this sweet baby shared by @TwoTailsDC.

Hurricane Debby is making things extra humid and damp, but she won’t stop our fun. What shall we do?

This evening and all Fridays in August, try fishing in the Anacostia with Anacostia Riverkeeper. Go to Diamond Teague park and learn how to prepare your bait, cast your rod and all that good fishing stuff! It’s fun! More information here.

Feeling tense? Try Yoga in the Park with Barracks Row Main Street, at Eastern Market Metro Park, 9th and D SE, from 10-11 am. Bring your own mat and some water. More info here.

CATURDAY IS TOMORROW AT NATS PARK!!!! Sure, you’re not supposed to bring your cats to the ballpark (a little rude tbh, but we get it), but you get to send in photos of your fur babies that may appear on the big screen (!!!) and you get a Caturday t-shirt! The best part? $5 out of all ticket proceeds goes directly to our friends at the Humane Rescue Alliance! Oh yeah, there’s also some sort of sport happening down below. Tickets? Click here.

Do you love H Street? Then you need to participate in the inaugural H Street Passport. Click on the form here and get a Bingo card. Then, make sure to go to all your H Street favorites and BINGO!

The second Saturday of the month belongs to Capitol Hill Books! Stop by the store, enjoy wine and cheese from 5-7:3:0 p.m. and a 10% discount on your purchases from 5 p.m. to close! Check out all the cool things they have here.

Want to stay indoors and work for DC Statehood? Why not send postcards? Neighbors United for DC Statehood needs volunteers who believe the District needs statehood. Click here for more information.

Camp Wharf is celebrating National S’mores Day tomorrow and almost every day! Get one delicious cookie sandwich for just $5 or four for $17. The best part? A portion of the proceeds goes to charities in southwest DC! More info here. Free on Sunday instead? Go get your Brunch and Beats on! Check out the schedule here.

OFF-HILL

This show has been on view since July 14, but I’m looking forward to seeing the National Gallery of Art‘s curation of Gordon Park’s photographs, selected primarily from the Corcoran Collection. Take a look at their online selection and make sure to catch it in person. The show will be at NGA through January 12, 2025. More information here.

The National Building Museum has a new exhibit called Capital Brutalism. Take a loving look at some of our most polarizing, beloved architecture. (#teamBrutalism). Click here for more information and click here for tickets to the Building Museum.

The National Museum of Women in the Arts has an incredible exhibit titled “New Worlds: Women to Watch 2024.” This biennial show highlights some of the boldest, most touching and creative work by women and women-identifying artists working right now. From a haunting multimedia exhibit about climate change to a powerful nude sculpture and self-portrait of an artist who’s a breast cancer survivor, the show takes viewers on a circular journey where the past is also the future. Highly recommend it! For more information, tickets and membership options, click here.

The National Portrait Gallery has an exhibit on view through June 3, 2025, called “Brilliant Exiles.” The exhibit, which takes over a large part of the second floor, focuses on mostly American women who emigrated to Paris between 1900 and 1939. During that tumultuous 40-year period, these migrants excelled in different areas. From writing, painting and dancing to publishing and interior design, these forward-thinking avatars pushed boundaries and found that Paris did not judge them for their womanhood or for being people of color or queer, but instead celebrated them and let them be. The exhibit is a carefully curated view of the women through their own eyes and, far more often than you might hope, through the eyes of important men in their lives. You can learn more and plan your visit here.
