  • MPD Arrests Additional Teen in Navy Yard Retail Theft, Search for Other Suspects Ongoing

Detectives from the Metropolitan Police Department’s First District announce the arrest of an additional suspect who was involved in a retail theft offense.
On Tuesday, April 16, 2024, at approximately 8:45 p.m., a group of suspects entered a CVS in the 1100 block of New Jersey Avenue, Southeast, and took items without paying. Shortly before, most of this group was involved in assault that took place near the Washington Monument. While police Officers were on scene of the CVS, one of the suspects threw a bottle, hitting the officer in the leg. Additionally, while inside the store they were confronted by a security guard one of the suspects threw a bottle, missing the security guard.
On Friday, May 10, 2024, as a result of the detectives’ investigation a 15-year-old juvenile female of Southeast, DC was arrested and charged with Simple Assault, and two counts of Aggravated Assault.
Previously, detectives’ have made eight arrests relating to this incident:
-A 16-year-old male, of Southeast, was arrested and charged with Burglary 2nd Degree, Conspiracy to Commit a Crime, and Theft 2nd Degree.
-A 15-year-old female, of Southeast, was arrested and charged with Aggravated Assault, Simple Assault, Burglary, and Conspiracy to Commit Theft
-A 15-year-old female, of Southeast, was arrested and charged with Aggravated Assault, Simple Assault, Burglary, and Receiving Stolen Property
-A 15-year-old male, of Southeast, was arrested and charged with Burglary, Theft, and Conspiracy to Commit a crime.
-Two 14-year-old males, of Southeast, were arrested and charged with Burglary, Theft, and Conspiracy to Commit a crime.
-A 15-year-old female, of Southeast, was arrested and charged with Burglary Two, Theft and Conspiracy to Commit a Crime.
-A 16-year-old male, of Southeast, was arrested and charged with Burglary Two, Theft and Assault on a Police Officer.
Detectives continue to search for the additional suspects pictured above.

  • MPD Arrests a Man for a Burglary of a Business

Detectives from the Metropolitan Police Department’s First District announced the arrest of a man who burglarized a business in Southeast.
On Tuesday, May 14, 2024, at approximately 11:39 p.m., a man forced entry into a business in the 1100 block of Pennsylvania Avenue, Southeast. Once inside, the suspect took property then fled the scene. A short time later, officers located the suspect hiding in a nearby shed with the stolen property.
On Tuesday, May 14, 2024, 57-year-old Warren Lewis of Southeast, D.C. was arrested and charged with Burglary Two.

  • Months-Long Investigation Leads to Federal Indictment Targeting Dangerous Northeast Crew

The Metropolitan Police Department announces the results of a months-long investigation that culminated in a sweeping federal indictment.
In September of 2023, members of the Violent Crime Impact Team, in partnership with our federal law enforcement partners, began a long-term investigation into a violent crew suspected of distributing narcotics throughout the District from the Carver Langston neighborhood
As a result of their work, on Monday, May 13, 2024, a 17-count federal indictment was issued by the U.S. District Court.
On Wednesday, May 15, 2024, the investigation culminated in a large-scale, multi-agency takedown operation involving over 300 law enforcement officers and agents with MPD, DEA, FBI, and the United States Attorney’s Office. Multiple search warrants were executed and fifteen arrests were made.
“This is just the latest example of the diligent work the men and woman of the Metropolitan Police Department are putting in around the clock to hold those who are preying on our communities accountable,” said Chief Pamela A. Smith. “The results of this painstaking investigation by our detectives will bring immediate relief to the neighborhoods that these suspects were operating in. We will continue to leverage the full resources of the Metropolitan Police Department and our partners in order to keep our communities safe.”
Pursuant to the federal indictment by the U.S. District Court, the following suspects were arrested and charged with Conspiracy to Distribute and Possess with Intent to Distribute 400 Grams or More of Fentanyl and Cocaine Base within 1,000 Feet of a Protected Location, Unlawful Distribution of Forty Grams or More of Fentanyl, Unlawful Possession of Ammunition by a Person Convicted of a Crime Punishable by Imprisonment Exceeding One Year, Unlawful Distribution of Fifty Grams or More of Methamphetamine, Assault with a Dangerous Weapon, Aiding and Abetting, and Possession of a Firearm During a Crime of Violence or Dangerous Offense:
-31-year-old Jamiek Divine Bassil of Northwest.
-34-year-old Damien Antonio Jenkins of Capitol Heights, MD.
-32-year-old Charles Manson of Northeast.
-29-year-old Trevon Rashard Palmer of Northeast.
-20-year-old Nathaniel Russell of Northwest.
-42-year-old Van Garfield Robinson III of Southeast.
-30-year-old Briyon Dewayne Shuford of Northwest.
-47-year-old Jason Green of Northeast.
-40-year-old Lydell Douglas of Southeast.
-26-year-old Jerome Delonte Powell of Southeast.
Additionally, the following suspects were arrested as a result of the investigation and the execution of the search warrants:
-23-year-old Jahru Gathers, of Northeast, was charged with Possession of Unregistered Firearm, Possession of Unregistered Ammunition, Possession of a Large Capacity Ammunition Feeding Device. CCN: 24072716
-35-year-old Abrian Avone Walker, of Northeast, was charged with Possession of a Controlled Substance (Felony). CCN: 24072638
-22-year-old Ahmed Bailey, of Northeast, was charged with Possession with Intent to Distribute a Controlled Substance. CCN: 24072645
-40-year-old Calvin Timorthy Allen, of Northwest, was charged with Manufacturing, Distributing, Dispensing, Possessing a Controlled Substance and Unlawful Possession of a Pistol. CCN: 24072775
-29-year-old Roscoe Washington, of Northwest, was charged with Possession of Unregistered Ammunition and Possession of a Large Capacity Ammunition Feeding Device. CCN: 24072709
The multiple search warrants that were executed throughout the District resulted in the recovery of 20 firearms, additional ammunition feeding devices, more than 150 cartridges of ammunition, over $23,000 in U.S. currency, and a quantity of suspected fentanyl, heroin, crack cocaine, powder cocaine, marijuana, and liquid PCP.

  • MPD Makes Quick Arrest in a Stabbing in Northeast

Detectives from the Metropolitan Police Department’s First District announce an arrest in a stabbing.
On Wednesday, May 15, 2024, at approximately 1:16 p.m., the suspect and victim were engaged in an argument at the intersection of 7th and A Streets, Northeast. The suspect pepper sprayed the victim and a struggle ensued. During the struggle, the suspect stabbed the victim. The suspect was apprehended by responding officers and a knife was recovered on the scene. The victim was treated on the scene for minor injuries.
26-year-old Sebastian Gustav Fonseca-Gomez of Northeast, DC, was arrested and charged with Assault with a Dangerous Weapon (Knife).

Previously, detectives’ have made nine arrests relating to this incident:
-A 16-year-old male of Northeast was arrested and charged with Assault with a Dangerous Weapon (bottle), Burglary 2nd Degree, Conspiracy to Commit a Crime, and Theft 2nd Degree.
-A 16-year-old male, of Southeast, was arrested and charged with Burglary 2nd Degree, Conspiracy to Commit a Crime, and Theft 2nd Degree.
-A 15-year-old female, of Southeast, was arrested and charged with Aggravated Assault, Simple Assault, Burglary, and Conspiracy to Commit Theft.
-A 15-year-old female of Southeast, was arrested and charged with Aggravated Assault, Simple Assault, Burglary, and Receiving Stolen Property.
-A 15-year-old juvenile female of Southeast, DC was arrested and charged with Simple Assault, and two counts of Aggravated Assault.
-Two 14-year-old males, of Southeast, were arrested and charged with Burglary, Theft, and Conspiracy to Commit a Crime.
-A 15-year-old female, of Southeast, was arrested and charged with Burglary Two, Theft, and Conspiracy to Commit a Crime.
-A 16-year-old male, of Southeast, was arrested and charged with Burglary Two, Theft, and Assault on a Police Officer.
Detectives continue to search for the additional suspects pictured above.

  • MPD Arrests Teen for an Assault, Weapon Recovered

Detectives from the Metropolitan Police Department’s Fifth District announce the arrest of a teen for pointing a gun at two victims.
On Sunday, April 7, 2024, at approximately 12:55 p.m., the suspect and the victims were riding in the same vehicle when an argument ensued. The victim stopped the vehicle in the 600 block of Morton Place, Northeast, and the suspect and another passenger exited the vehicle as well as the two victims. The suspect entered a residence and exited holding a rifle. The suspect pointed the rifle at one of the victims while threatening the victim, and then broke the vehicle’s window with the rifle. The suspect then pointed the rifle at the other victim and the victims fled the scene. Investigating officers later located the firearm.
On Wednesday, May 15, 2024, a 14-year-old juvenile male of Northeast, DC, turned himself in to the Fifth District Police Station. He was arrested pursuant to a DC Superior Court custody order and was charged with Assault with a Dangerous Weapon (Gun), Possession of a Large Capacity Ammunition Feeding Device, Possession of Unregistered Ammunition, Unlawful Discarding of a Firearm, Threats to Injure or Kidnap, and Destruction of Property.

  • MPD Arrests Man for October 2022 Homicide

The Metropolitan Police Department announces the arrest of a man for a homicide that occurred in October 2022.
On October 14, 2022, at approximately 8:50 p.m., First District officers responded to the intersection of L Street and 11th Street, Southeast, for the report of an assault. Upon arrival, officers found the victim with blunt force injuries. He was transported to a local hospital for treatment. He succumbed to his injuries on November 3, 2022.
The victim was identified as 61-year-old Thomas Gray, of Southwest.
An autopsy was conducted by the DC Office of the Chief Medical Examiner. As a result, the cause of death was determined to be complications of blunt force trauma. The manner of death was ruled a homicide.
On Friday, May 17, 2024, pursuant to a DC Superior Court arrest warrant, members of the Capital Area Regional Fugitive Task Force arrested 54-year-old Oliver Gomes, of Southeast. He was transported to the Homicide Branch where he was charged with Second Degree Murder while Armed. The detectives’ investigation revealed that the victim and suspect were known to each other.
