  • Arrest Made After Northeast Homicide

Detectives from the Metropolitan Police Department’s Homicide Branch announce the arrest of a man who shot and killed another man overnight.
On Sunday, February 18, 2024, at approximately 3:00 a.m., Fifth District officers responded to the 1600 block of Rosedale Street, Northeast, for the report of a shooting. Upon their arrival, officers found an adult male shooting victim inside of a residence. He was pronounced dead on the scene.
The victim has been identified as 35-year-old Darius Robinson, of Northwest, DC.
The suspect fled the scene after the shooting but officers were able to quickly locate him. As a result of the detectives’ investigation, 25-year-old Charles Demarco Best, of Clinton, MD, was arrested and charged with Second Degree Murder. The detectives’ investigation suggests the victim and suspect were known to each other.

  • MPD Investigating D.C. Housing Authority Officer-Involved Shooting

Agents from the Force Investigations Team of the Metropolitan Police Department’s (MPD) Internal Affairs Bureau are investigating a D.C. Housing Authority Police officer-involved shooting that occurred in Navy Yard this morning.
At approximately 5:41 a.m., DC Housing Authority Police responded to a DC Housing Authority property in the 400 block of M Street, Southeast, for an unlawful entry. Officers located two suspects inside the property. As the officers attempted to stop one of the suspects, a struggle ensued which eventually led to an exchange of gunfire between an officer and the suspect. As a result, one of the D.C. Housing Authority Police Officers was struck.
The suspect then fled into a neighboring building. A barricade was declared and members of MPD’s Emergency Response Team were called to the scene to assist.
Members of the Emergency Response Team located the suspect on the roof of that building a short time later and placed him under arrest. The suspect’s gun was recovered from a trash can inside of the building and can be seen in the photos below.
40-year-old Victor Terrill of Landover, MD, was arrested and charged with Assault with Intent to Kill, Assault on a Police Officer, Felon in Possession of a Firearm and Unlawful Entry. 37-year-old Teyona Tolson of Southwest, DC was arrested and charged with Unlawful Entry.
The injured D.C. Housing Authority Officer was transported to an area hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.
The officer involved shooting incident remains under investigation by the Metropolitan Police Department Internal Affairs Division’s Force Investigations Team, which investigates all law enforcement officer involved shootings in the District of Columbia. The facts and evidence in the case will be independently reviewed by the United States Attorney’s Office. The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives is assisting with the investigation.

  • MPD Arrests Teen in Killing of Rideshare Driver

Detectives from the Metropolitan Police Department’s Homicide Branch have made an arrest in the killing of a rideshare driver in Northeast in July 2023.
At approximately 12:08 a.m. on Monday, July 3, 2023, First District officers responded to the 400 block of 11th Street, Northeast, for the report of an unconscious person. Upon arrival, officers located an adult male shooting victim inside of a vehicle. He was taken to an area hospital for treatment. After all life-saving efforts failed, the victim was pronounced dead.
The decedent was identified as 31-year-old Nasrat Ahmad Yar, of Alexandria, VA.
On Friday, March 1, 2024, pursuant to a DC Superior Court custody order, members of the Capital Area Regional Fugitive Task Force arrested a 15-year-old male of Northeast, D.C. He has been charged with First Degree Murder while Armed.

  • MPD Arrests a Man for Twenty-Two Theft from Auto Offenses

Detectives from the Metropolitan Police Department’s Criminal Investigations Division announced a man has been arrested for multiple theft from auto offenses that occurred in the District.
On Tuesday, February 27, 2024, at approximately 11:45 a.m. First District officers were patrolling when they observed a stolen vehicle. The Air Support Unit tracked the vehicle to the 500 block of 56th Street, Northeast. Three suspects exited the vehicle and ran from the scene. One of the suspects was apprehended by responding officers.
22-year-old Jordan Young of Northeast, DC was arrested and charged with Unauthorized Use of a Vehicle, Receiving Stolen Property, and Possession of Implements of a Crime.
During the detectives’ investigation, they were able to link Young to twenty-two theft from auto and destruction of property cases in the District. Most of the offenses involved the theft of tools from vehicles.

  • MPD Seeks a Suspect in a Northeast Fatal Stabbing

Detectives from the Metropolitan Police Department’s Homicide Branch seek the public’s assistance in identifying and locating a suspect involved in a fatal stabbing that left one man dead in Northeast.
On Saturday, February 24, 2024, at approximately 3:19 p.m., Fifth District officers responded to a report of a stabbing at Maryland Avenue and Bladensburg Road, Northeast. When they arrived, they found a man suffering from a stab wound. The victim was transported to a local hospital, where after all life-saving efforts failed, he was pronounced dead.
The decedent has been identified as 53-year-old Christopher King, of no fixed address.
The suspect was captured by nearby surveillance cameras and can be seen in the photos above.

  • Robbery Suppression Unit Witnesses Carjacking, Arrests Suspect

Members of the Metropolitan Police Department’s Robbery Suppression Unit (RSU) arrested a man after he attempted to carjack a man in Northeast, D.C.
On March 3, 2024, at approximately 7:20 p.m., RSU members were stopped at a red light at 11th Street and H Street, Northeast, when they saw two men on a scooter attempt to steal another man’s scooter.
The officers quickly took one of the suspects into custody, while the other was able to flee on the original scooter.
27-year-old Daquan Seth Jackson, of Northwest, D.C., was arrested and charged with Carjacking and Possession of a Controlled Substance.
The Metropolitan Police Department’s Robbery Suppression Unit is focused on the prevention of violent crimes, specifically robberies and carjackings in the District. This unit is composed of non-patrol resources which allows patrol officers to remain available to respond to 911-calls for service.

  • MPD Arrests Two Men for a Shooting in Northeast

Detectives from the Metropolitan Police Department’s Fifth District announce the arrest of two men involved in a shooting that occurred in the Unit block of M Street, Northeast.
On Wednesday, February 21, 2024, at approximately 5:02 p.m., Fifth District officers responded to the listed location, for the report of a shooting. Upon arrival, officers located an adult male victim suffering from gunshot wounds. He was transported to a local hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries. A short time later, an additional adult male was located at an area hospital receiving treatment for gunshot wounds.
The detectives’ investigation revealed that both adult males were shooting at each other. Both were placed under arrest.
On Wednesday, February 21, 2024, 23-year-old Donte Brown of Northeast, DC, was charged with Assault with a Dangerous Weapon (Gun), Carrying a Pistol without a License and Possession with Intent to Distribute Marijuana. 30-year-old Kevon Austin of Northwest, DC, was charged with Assault with a Dangerous Weapon Gun and Carrying a Pistol without a License.

  • MPD Arrests Teen for Robbery

Members of the Metropolitan Police Department’s First District arrested a teen for robbery after he stole the victim’s shoes.
On October 17, 2023, at approximately 4:20 p.m., the victim was approached by two suspects in the 1400 block of Pennsylvania Avenue, Southeast. The suspects assaulted the victim and took their shoes. The suspects fled the scene.
On Tuesday, March 5, 2024, pursuant to a DC Superior Court custody order, a 16-year-old juvenile male of Southeast, D.C., was arrested and charged with Robbery.

  • MPD Arrests Man for Arson

Detectives from the Metropolitan Police Department’s First District announced a man has been arrested for starting a fire in his apartment in his building.
On Monday, March 4, 2024, at approximately 3:55 p.m. First District officers responded to the 900 block of 5th Street, Southeast for the report of a fire inside of an apartment. Members of DC Fire and Emergency Medical Services extinguished the fire.
The investigation at the scene revealed that the suspect intentionally set fire to his apartment after receiving a notice of past-due rent from the property manager. The suspect threatened the property manager and returned to his apartment. Once inside his apartment, he set items on fire.
63-year-old Mitchell Cooper, of Southeast, D.C. was arrested and charged with Arson and Threats to do Bodily Harm.

  • MPD Seeks Suspects in a Northeast Robbery

Detectives from the Metropolitan Police Department’s First District seek the community’s assistance in locating suspects who robbed a victim in Northeast.
On Saturday, February 24, 2024, at approximately 11:34 p.m., the suspects approached the victim in the 100 block of Massachusetts Avenue, Northeast. One of the suspects placed his hands in his pockets as if he had a weapon and demanded the victim’s AirPods. The victim complied and the suspects fled the scene.
The suspects were captured by surveillance cameras and can be seen in the photos above.
