  • Arrest Made in a Northeast Fatal Shooting

Detectives from the Metropolitan Police Department’s Homicide Branch announce an arrest has been made in a shooting that killed a man in Northeast, D.C.
On Sunday, November 12, 2023, at approximately 2:42 a.m., Fifth District officers were responding to a report of the sounds of gunshots. They were flagged down and directed to the rear of the 700 block of 16th Street, Northeast, where they located an adult male shooting victim inside of a vehicle. The victim died at the scene.
During the on-scene investigation, a suspect was developed, and a lookout was broadcasted. Members of the Fifth District Crime Suppression Team located and apprehended the suspect, who was found to be in possession of a handgun.
The victim has been identified as 41-year-old Kelvin Hamlett, of Southwest, DC.
The suspect, identified as 46-year-old John Dickens, II of no fixed address, was arrested and charged with Second Degree Murder while Armed.

  • NE Shooting Leaves Man Dead, Another Injured

Detectives from the Metropolitan Police Department’s Homicide Branch are investigating a shooting that killed a man and left another critically injured in Northeast, D.C.
On November 12, 2023, at approximately 10:06 p.m., Fifth District officers responded to the 1500 block of F Street Northeast, for the report of a shooting. Upon arrival, officers located two men inside of a residence suffering from gunshot wound injuries. One man died at the scene, and the other was transported to a local hospital where he is in critical condition.
The victim has been identified as 31-year-old Leon Carter, of Northeast, DC.

  • Teen Arrested in Two Unarmed Carjackings

Detectives from the Metropolitan Police Department’s Carjacking Task Force have arrested a teen for two unarmed carjackings that occurred on Friday, November 10, 2023, in the District.
At approximately 6:35 p.m., two suspects approached the victim in the 200 block of 9th Street, Northeast. The suspects demanded the victim’s vehicle keys. The victim complied and the suspects fled the scene in the victim’s vehicle.
At approximately 11:08 p.m., three suspects approached the victim in the 600 block of L Street, Southeast. The suspects demanded the victim’s vehicle keys. The victim complied. The suspects attempted to start the vehicle but failed, and then fled the scene on foot.
On Saturday, November 12, 2023, a 15-year-old juvenile male Northwest, DC was arrested and charged with two counts of Unarmed Carjacking.

  • Man Arrested for Assault with Intent to Rob

Detectives from the Metropolitan Police Department’s Fifth District announce the arrest of a man after he assaulted the victim with the intent to commit a robbery.
On Sunday, November 12, 2023, at approximately 9:42 a.m., the suspect approached the victim at the intersection of 7th and K Streets, Northeast. The suspect assaulted the victim and attempted to take the victim’s cell phone. The suspect was apprehended by responding officers.
The suspect, identified as 36-year-old William Gray of Southeast, DC, was arrested and charged with Assault with Intent to Rob.

  • Suspect Sought in an Armed Carjacking

Detectives from the Metropolitan Police Department’s Carjacking Task Force seek the public’s assistance in identifying a carjacking suspect.
On Monday, November 13, 2023, at approximately 5:24 am., in the 700 block of 14th Street, Northeast, the victim was seated in the rear passenger seat of their vehicle. The suspect approached the victim and demanded the victim to exit the vehicle while brandishing a handgun. The victim complied. The suspect fled the scene in the victim’s vehicle.
The suspect was captured by a nearby surveillance camera and can be seen in the photographs at right.
